SFLC: OpenDocument is safe for free software

by Matt Lee Contributions Published on Jul 17, 2006 12:56 PM

The Software Freedom Law Center has issued an opinion letter verifying that the OpenDocument Format (ODF) is safe to use in free software.

The FSF still has concerns about OASIS's patent policy, but the letter from the SFLC verifies that ODF is unaffected by these concerns.

We can and will continue to push for OpenDocument and free software applications that support it, both as better alternatives for individuals to use and as a part of our overall campaign to make sure governments use free formats when handling and distributing public information.
