The Dangers of Software Patents

by Matt Lee Contributions Published on Dec 20, 2006 11:59 AM
Richard Stallman will explain how software patents obstruct software development. Software patents are patents that cover software ideas. They restrict the development of software, so that every design decision brings a risk of getting sued. Patents in other fields restrict factories, but software patents restrict every computer user. Economic research shows that they even retard progress. There is no registration or fee and the public is encouraged to attend. Location: Drexel University, Bossone Auditorium, Building 7A, 3141 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. (Directions at: http://www.drexel.edu/em/directions/map_uc.html)
