Pineapple production in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, in the northeast of the country, reaches levels close to 10,000 hectares planted per year. This makes the state the second largest producer of the fruit in the country. Pineapples alone accounted for more than 50% of the gross value of all state fruit production in 2021.
The coastal strip is the most cultivated area, with the mesoregions of Agreste and Mata Paraibana. The cities of Araçagi, Lagoa de Dentro, Itapororoca, Pedras de Fogo, Santa Rita, Cuité de Mamanguape and Curral de Cima concentrate 82% of all production in the state. In addition to the fruit, there is the use of pineapple leaves for the production of textile fiber.
Paraíba registers more than 263 million fruits extracted per year, providing income of around R$325 million for the state economy.
