Following a catalog introduction in October 2002, the very first Talbots Mens store will officially open in April 2003 in Westport, Conn., followed shortly by additional openings in King of Prussia, Pa., and Worthington, Ohio.

Under the plans Bolton and Wigan mens stores - and the New Look shop within Stockport's Merseyway centre - would close.

Talbots, which is trying to focus on improving its core women's business, which has struggled for some time, said it will close 66 Talbots Kids and 12 Talbots Mens stores, cutting about 800 full and part-time jobs.
