Vibration damping is the dissipation of mechanical energy from a system.
Vibration damping can be achieved using one of two methods, or optimally, through a combination of both:
where M, C, and K are the mass, damping, and stiffness matrices, respectively; [??](t), [??](t), and q(t) are the acceleration, velocity, and displacement vectors, respectively; and is the vector of external forces.
Approach to Define Rayleigh Damping. Rayleigh damping [23] is defined by a damping matrix formed as a linear combination of the mass and stiffness matrices and given as
where [alpha] and [beta], respectively, represent the mass and stiffness proportional damping coefficients, which are collectively known as Rayleigh damping coefficients.
The damping time is [[tau].sub.d] - 1/[[omega].sub.i] and damping per period is [D.sub.p] - [[omega].sub.i]/ [[omega].sub.r].
Viscous damping is another means of describing the element's capacity in dissipating earthquake energy.
It is assumed that FESS damping controllers are configured in active power and voltage control loops respectively and the output signals are Vsp and Vsu.
