Respected ornithologist Anthony McGeehan from Bangor, Co Down, who willl lead walks to the island's
corncrake habitats over the weekend, said he was delighted to see the festival taking place.
As the
corncrake shows, extinction is not inevitable if communities work together to protect the environment.
The figure on page 63 in the chapter 'Biodiversity as Biopolitics', for example, is exactly the same as in the next chapter on page 80, except the word 'species' is exchanged for '
corncrake'.

Rare birds such as the

The former Professor of Irish at NUI Maynooth added: "I often feel that there's more interest in preserving the

Corncrake and Peregrine Falcon.
The lake is also the only nesting site in Slovenia for the red-necked grebe, the redshank and the ferruginous duck as well as a breeding place for the

corncrake.
Several threatened and vulnerable bird species, such as the
Corncrake, Chough and the Hen Harrier, are poorly covered by site protection measures in Ireland.
