Phalguna

Phalguna, while going to attend a program in the tribal area of Pedabayalu, boarded an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus in Visakhapatnam district of the state.

Crosses of BG 380-2 and Gurmatia with susceptible cultivars Annada and Kranti; with differentials possessing the known genes (Samridhi possessing the Gm1 gene, Phalguna with the Gm2 gene, RP 2068-18-3-5 with the gm3 gene, Abhaya with the Gm4 gene, ARC 5984 with the Gm5 gene, RP2333-156-8 with the Gm7 gene, Jhitpiti with the Gm8 gene, Madhuri line 9 with the Gm9 gene); and among themselves were performed to develop [F.sub.1], [F.sub.2], and [F.sub.3] populations for studying the inheritance and allelic nature of gene(s) for gall midge resistance.

According to Hindu almanac, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the 13th night and the 14th day of the Phalguna month (somewhere in February and March).

It is a festival celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) of the month of Maagha or Phalguna in the Hindu calendar.
