Data gathering with the M/V Akademik Fersman ship will begin in early August with the survey of 4,500 km in the
Laptev Sea, before the vessel moves to the East Siberian Sea to acquire an additional 3,200 km.
Along the coast is a wide continental shelf, running eastward from the Barents Sea in the west to the Kara Sea, the
Laptev Sea, the East Siberian Sea, and the Chukchi Sea.
This submarine mountain range, named after 18th century Russian explorer and artist Mikhail Lomonosov, stretches from the
