Fort Liberty garrison changes senior enlisted leader
FORT LIBERTY — Fort Liberty welcomed a new garrison command sergeant major late last month, a Fort Liberty spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The change of responsibility ceremony between outgoing Command Sgt. Maj. Gregory Seymour and new Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Scott was Oct. 25 in the Main Post Chapel, said April Olsen, a Fort Liberty spokeswoman.
Seymour had been in the spot since February 2023. On Monday, he announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he will serve as the new senior enlisted leader for the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery, also at Fort Liberty.
Leaders
Scott is no stranger to Fort Liberty, most recently serving as the senior enlisted leader for the 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
As garrison command sergeant major, he will serve as the senior enlisted adviser for garrison commander Col. Chad Mixon, deputy garrison commander Kevin Griess and the post’s directorates to support the installation’s day-to-day operations.
During Seymour’s time as garrison command sergeant major, he helped clean up piled-up trash on post, after a contractor had equipment issues.
He was also involved in the process to oversee the renaming of Fort Bragg to Fort Liberty, after Congress approved renaming all military installations named after Confederates.
New command sergeant major
Scott enlisted in the Army as an infantryman in May 1997 and graduated from One Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Moore, Georgia, according to his biography.
He has served in leadership positions, from rifle team leader to the senior enlisted leader level to include being a Ranger instructor for the 4th Ranger Training Battalion at Fort Moore and serving with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York, the 25th Light Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Liberty.
Scott’s biography states that he has deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina and to Afghanistan three times.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Start Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
Scott is also a Distinguished Member 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which is based at Fort Liberty under the 82nd Airborne Division.
