Description

Kristin Linklater has been helping people to transform their voice into an instrument of passion, power and performance for many, many years. I am honoured that she is a guest on the show and that she is sharing such value for anyone that wants to reach their full potential as a public speaker. She has had a long and distinguished career as a teacher and actor in Europe and America. She has worked with some of the most prestigious theatre companies and dramatic institutions in the world and has written one of the seminal books on voice technique based on hearing ‘the person, not the voice.’ Kristin has published several articles on voice and has lectured and given workshops in the U.S., the UK, Europe, Russia, Taiwan and China. Since 1965 she has trained over 200 teachers in her methods; they teach in a majority of the actor-training programs in the U.S., and in Australia, England, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Finland, Spain and Russia. Today, Kristin is still teaching her method in courses at the Kristin Linklater Voice Centre in the Orkney Islands.   I hope you enjoy the show.  What we talk about: The mysterious origin of modern voice technique. The connection between mind, body and voice. The difference between a ‘free’ voice and an ‘inhibited’ one. The ‘vertical’ experience of the voice and why speakers should be using this in their talks. Why we ‘unlearn’ how to use our voice to its full potential. How our jaw protects us from ‘feeling’ unwanted emotion.  Examples of bad voice habits and how they impact the quality of our performance? How trying to control our voice reduces our vocal stamina. Why public speakers must ‘feel’ the words and not hide behind a presentational tone. The link between our limiting beliefs and our voice. Why the stories we’re silently holding onto are sabotaging our voice and our message.  The step on stage ‘mantra’ for conquering the primal fear that stops you from speaking or affects your performance.  Tips for speakers to help improve the quality of their voice. Kristin’s process for putting her own keynote talks together. How Kristin uses stories to create aha moments.  Who really wrote the plays of Shakespeare!
