As an Audible book listener, you’ll be captivated by the timeless and profound Bible passages that address the world’s beginning and the Word’s significance. These verses, primarily found in the books of Genesis and John, offer a compelling narrative that speaks to the heart and mind.

The Beginning and Creation Genesis 1:1-3 (NIV) In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.

In these verses, the Bible describes God’s creation of the world. It begins with a formless, empty earth that God transforms through His Word. This act of speaking the world into existence emphasizes the power and authority of God’s Word.

The significance of the Word can be found in John 1:1-5, 14 (NIV):

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him, all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

These passages from the Gospel of John explain the significance of the Word (Greek: Logos). John identifies the Word as both with God and being God, highlighting the divine nature and preexistence of the Word. The Word is also identified as Jesus Christ, who became flesh and lived among humanity. This underscores the central Christian belief in the incarnation—God becoming human in the person of Jesus.

The Legacy of William Tyndale and Noah Webster

When we think, our inner dialogue consists of words. Our mission is to get as close to the essence of those words as possible. To achieve this, we turn to Merriam-Webster’s first editions of his pious dictionary entries and the Apostolic Bible Polyglot English (ABEn) text adopted by Tyndale House. These sources bring us near to the first English translation of the Bible, as commissioned by William Tyndale. Tyndale and Webster
