Madhya Pradesh - Ansusekhar Guin
Chapter 1: Introduction: Madhya Pradesh: Heartland of India
Madhya Pradesh is in the centre of India and is also called the heart of India. Sehore near Jabalpur is the centre point of India. Before the Christian era, Madhya Pradesh was a corridor for travel from North India to South India. Maurya Emperor Bindusara appointed his son Ashoka as the ruler of Ujjain. In the 4th century AD, the golden era started during the rule of the Gupta dynasty. In the 7th century, Emperor Harshavardhana ruled Madhya Pradesh. In the 9th century, much development happened during the Chandela and Parmar dynasty. The temples of Khajuraho and Kalachuri were constructed during this era.
This state is famous for its culture, history, and nature. Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest Indian state by area, bordered by the 8 states of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan. The region was ruled by the prominent dynasties of India, Including the Maratha Empire.
This state is home to ten National Parks; Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Satpura, Sanjay, Madhav, Van Vihar, Panna, Pench, Mandla Plant Fossils National Park, and Dinosaur National Park, Dhar.
Tapti and Narmada rivers flow from East to West. Chambal, Sone, Betwa, Mahanadi, and Indrabati rivers flow from West to East. The Vindhya Mountains are in the North of the state, and the Satpura Mountains are in the South. Nature reserves include Amarkantak, Bagh Caves, Pachmarhi, Patalkot, and Panna.
The main cities of MP are Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Dewas, Satna, Ratlam, and Rewa.
There are four UNESCO sites in Madhya Pradesh: the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Devi Jagadambi temple in Khajuraho, the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka and Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi.
