    Overview

    What happens after death?

Garuda Puran, a gem among the 18 Mahapuraṇ, you see,

A part of the grand Vaishnavism literature corpus, it be.

In the form of a conversation, it's narrated so clearly,

Between Lord Vishnu and Garuda, quite categorically.

It emphasizes the meaning of human life, primarily,

Details about after death, it contains so lucidly.

The funeral rites, the reincarnation, described vividly,

As part of funeral rites in Hinduism, it's recited surely.

Garuda Puran, the gist of great teachings, truly,

Of what happens after death, and what death be.

Is there life after death? Is death painful, maybe?

How rebirth occur? What's journey after death, truly?

    These questions are related, undeniably,

To the event that ends life, perpetually.

When our near and dear ones die, especially,

Our minds seek answers in this spiritual journey.

Death, in fact, is a process quite interesting,

*Disconnection of the earth sole chakras*, it's beginning.

About 4–5 hours prior to death, detachment happening,

Disconnection from the earth plane, it's indicating.

A few hours prior to an individual’s death, the feet turn cold,

When the time to depart arrives, a sight to behold.

It is said that Yama, the God of death, takes hold,

Appearing to guide the soul, as the ancient tales have told.

    The Astral Cord

Death severs the astral cord, a connection so hearty,

Linking the soul to the body, in this life's party.

Once this cord is cut, the soul becomes free,

Moves up and out of the body, like a bird from a tree.

If the soul is attached, to the body it wore,

It refuses to leave, tries to get in once more.

A subtle movement of the face, hand or leg, we might see,

After the person has died, a sign of the soul's plea.

The soul is unable to accept, that it is indeed dead,

Feels alive, though the body's life has fled.

Since the astral cord has been severed, it cannot stay,

Pushed upwards and out of the body, in the cosmic ballet.

There's a pull from above, a magnetic allure,

Guiding the soul upwards, to the realms so pure.

    Death is but a transition, a change, a step-up,

As soul embarks on its journey,
