Chapped Lips -Chapbook - Stephanie Daich
Escape To Nature
*
Run away with me; let us leave.
No longer city dwellers.
Rolling mountains and pure air,
Dark, rich dirt, and wildflowers.
We will live on the land, away from the madness.
We will take time to watch the blue jays and cardinals,
We will chase fireflies at night.
Run away with me, stay with me.
Forever in nature, we will be free.
A Net Filled With Holes
*
Do not catch your dreams in a net filled with holes,
For you’ll waste your energy chasing,
And squander your time with impossible goals,
As you put your dreams in a net filled with holes.
Do not hold onto love that is filled with burs,
For it deceives and beguiles,
But the only heart that loved, was yours
As it shreds yours apart with its burs.
Do not chase a high with a chemical that burn,
For the excitement only lasts a moment,
And then you’ll be left empty, only to yearn,
For another chance to chase the chemical that will only burn.
Obsession
*
Obsession
I thought you were good.
You strengthened me and pushed me farther than I could achieve alone.
Obsession
You shaped me, molded me, strengthened me.
With you, I accomplished my goals; I went beyond.
Obsession
You grew me into a pillar.
Obsession
You beguiled me.
All I could think about was you and neglected everything else.
Obsession
I lost most of who I was to you, abandoned it.
I pushed everything else in my life out for you.
Obsession.
In the end, you ruined me.
The Refugee
*
Dejectedly, broken, the child
Wanders the new land with her life defiled.
Confused and tired, she attempts to understand.
New ways, odd smells; a strange land.
Here and there the people stare.
Her manner of speech, or her hidden hair.
Tossed to the street like an abandoned stray.
With no one to help her, she has lost her way.
From deep in her heart, the nightmares reign.
They dredge up the memories and the pain.
All alone, the refugee must survive.
Left alone, she cannot thrive.
The French Farmer’s Fight
*
As French farmers block major traffic,
As they dump rotten fruit to create havoc,
As they spread manure on government spaces,
The famers’ union continues to pull out their aces.
Fighting against the bureaucrat,
Farmers withstand the new age aristocrat.
Laden With Sin
*
Slyly and deceptively to the dredge of hell.
The masses of sinners come.
At nigh,t they showed their true self,
But morning, they wore their masks of concealment.
Between the broken hearts
