About the Author
Edens A. Pierre-Louis is a poet of Haitian descent and a United States Army Veteran. He was born in Artibonite (Latibonit), Haiti, and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, at the age of six. Edens had been writing poetry since the early age of thirteen and soon realized this was no longer just a hobby but a passion. He saw it as a way not only to express himself and his feelings, but also as an avenue to help others express their feelings on paper. In his own words he states, “Anytime I have an idea on a topic in my mind it always feels like a movie that I am seeing for the first time and only I can see it. It is my job to complete the missing scenes and share it with the world despite the message. Some may not agree with the message but it’s my destiny to make sure everyone gets to see it too. Respectfully…of course.”

The Initial Pieces
This first segment of collected pieces dates back to early 2002 when I was thirteen years old. I started writing as an avenue to express my emotions. Some emotions such as anger, and frustration, etc. My aunt (Gigi) recommended I start keeping a journal after seeing how destructive I became when I was upset. My writing started with just that. After a while I started writing about anything that would come to mind. These Initial Pieces
are thoughts of various topics. They range anywhere from death, heartbreak, minor thoughts on history and society, and even early ideas of how I felt upon initial entry into the Military. Mind you, certain pieces were written from the expressions of others that I was honored to be given permission to write about. Therefore, some of the poems I am simply the scribe applying the most adequate words with the then
current emotions. Which ones…Well…You decide.
Please bear with me
IN THE HEAVENS
When darkness falls
Upon my soul
And my times are getting old
I really won’t worry
I really won’t cry
Cause I’ll know
It was my time to die.
So in my coffin
I would lay
On that very
Tragic day.
My mother and father
Will shed thy tears
But there will be no need for worries
No need for fears.
Cause up here
I’m under God’s light
And he’s protecting me
With his Almighty might.
So do not worry about me
Cause in the heavens…
I’m always free.
IF ONLY YOU KNEW
I love you
I love you
You…
I give my love.
Every night I thank the Lord for you
My angel from above.
When I first saw you
I knew this beauty could not be so true
And yet I think to myself…
If only you knew.
If only you knew
That my love is so true
And only you knew
How much I want you.
If only you knew
What I think about late at night
Oh how I want you here with me
Just to hold you so tight.
All these words
To you I want to say
But I haven’t had the courage
I haven’t seen the day.
And yet I still want to show
