About this ebook

The Vel represents the power of knowledge, victory, and valor. Lord Murugan vanquishes evil forces and safeguards his devotees with this Vel.

Thiruvaguppu, a collection of devotional hymns composed by Arunagirinatha Swamigal, comprises three sections: the Seerpatha Vaguppu, the Devendra Sanga Vaguppu and the Vel Vaguppu. Reciting these hymns has the power to eradicate physical ailments, spiritual afflictions, and liberate us from all suffering.

Vallimalai Sri Sachidananda Swamigal has compiled the Vel Vaguppu, a devotional hymn consisting of sixteen verses, into a unique recitation method known as "Vel Maral". This method involves reciting the verses in a specific order, alternating between forward and backward, ascending and descending, and repeating the entire sequence four times, resulting in a total of 64 verses (16 verses x 4 repetitions).

This recitation method is believed to be an effective remedy for three types of maladies:

•      Mental Afflictions: The Velmaral is said to alleviate anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.

•      Physical Ailments: The recitation is believed to promote physical well-being and healing from various illnesses.

•      Spiritual Maladies: The Velmaral is said to cleanse the soul and strengthen one's spiritual connection.

A unique aspect of the Vel Maral is the emphasis on the 16th verse, "tiruttaṇiyil udit(tu)aruḷum oruttaṉmalai viruttaṉeṉa(du) uḷattiluṟai karuttaṉmayil naḍattugugaṉ vēlē....," which is considered the Vel Maral Maha Mantram. This verse is recited 108 times during the recitation: 20 times at the beginning, 20 times at the end, and 64 + 4 times in the middle.

By incorporating the 16th verse of the Vel Vaguppu at the end of each verse during recitation, the entire sequence transforms into a unique and powerful mantra known as the 'Vel Maral Maha Mantram'.

Devoutly reciting the Vel Maral for a continuous period of one mandala (48 days) is believed to bring about desired outcomes and alleviate all afflictions. This is a well-established truth.

Chanting any mantra with understanding its meaning will give immense benefits. We have provided the meanings of the mantras at the end of the recitation. We request all the devotees to chant the mantras with understanding and receive the blessings of Lord Murugan.
