Water into Wine
Summary
In the Gospel of John (2:1-11), the story of Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana reveals both his compassion and divine authority. The event occurs during a wedding celebration where Jesus and his disciples are guests. During the festivities, the hosts ran out of wine, a culturally significant and embarrassing situation. Mary, Jesus' mother, aware of her son's abilities, approaches Jesus and informs him of the wine shortage. Initially, Jesus seems hesitant, stating that his time has not yet come. However, Mary instructs the servants to follow Jesus' directions. Nearby, six stone water jars, each capable of holding twenty to thirty gallons, were filled with water as Jesus instructed. Following Jesus' directive, the servants drew out some of the water and took it to the master of the feast. The water had been transformed into the finest wine to everyone's astonishment. This miracle marks the first public display of Jesus' divine power. It showcases his ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, providing not just any wine but the finest quality. The event is significant beyond merely replenishing the wine supply; it reveals Jesus' compassion for human needs and his capacity to bring joy and abundance. The master of the feast, unaware of the origin of the wine, compliments the bridegroom for saving the best wine for the latter part of the celebration. This miracle is a sign of Jesus' authority and divinity, prompting the disciples to believe in him. It marks the beginning of Jesus' public ministry, displaying his power, compassion, and ability to bring spiritual richness and joy into human lives.
John 2 1—11(AMP)
1ON THE third day there was a wedding at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited with His disciples to the wedding. 3 And when the wine was all gone, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no more wine! 4 Jesus said to her, [Dear] woman, what is that to you and to Me? [What do we have in common? Leave it to Me.] My time (hour to act) has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, Whatever He says to you, do it. 6 Now there were six waterpots of stone standing there, as the Jewish custom of purification (ceremonial washing) demanded, holding twenty to thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, Fill the waterpots with water. So they filled them up to the brim. 8 Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the manager of the feast [to the one presiding, the superintendent of the banquet]. So they took him some. 9 And when the manager tasted the water just now turned into wine, not knowing where it came from—though the servants who had drawn the water knew—he called the bridegroom 10 And said to him, Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now! 11 This, the first of His signs (miracles, wonderworks), Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory [by it He displayed His greatness and His power openly], and His disciples believed in Him [adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him].

Calming the Storm
Summary
The story of Jesus calming the storm is found in multiple Gospels (Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41, and Luke 8:22-25). It portrays a powerful demonstration of Jesus' authority over nature and his disciples' faith. In the account, Jesus and his disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee in a boat. While Jesus slept, a sudden and violent storm arose, causing the boat to be battered by strong winds and waves. The disciples, fearing for their lives, woke
