Samantha Michaels

Samantha Michaels was born in 1973 in the small town of Abington, PA and was raised and still lives in Hatboro, PA (both suburbs of Philadelphia).  She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have a rescue dog, a beautiful Black Lab named Holly. When she's’not writing or working at her full-time job, she enjoys watching her Philly sports team (hopefully) win, listening to heavy metal/hard rock music, Texas Hold Em, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her love of reading began at a young age, thanks to her mother and Sesame Street.  Her mom read to her constantly, and by three years old, she was reading on her own, and hasn’t stopped.  This eventually turned into a love of writing.  She was writing for herself and then for a small group of friends, one of whom told her she should be writing books.  She took her friends advice and has since published several romance books with plenty more on the way.

Leather and Lace - Samantha Michaels

    Chapter One

Good Morning, Philadelphia, the far too chipper voice shouted from her alarm clock. It looks like it's going to be a cold one out there today, so stay home and cuddle with your favorite valentine. Lizzie sighed. She couldn't believe it was already Friday, and to make matters worse, it was also Valentine's Day. Most people looked forward to both, but not her. Lizzie was still single five years after her marriage ended, so the weekends, and especially Valentine's Day, were lonely for her. She liked living in Philadelphia most of the time, but winter left her yearning for warmer temperatures.

However, Lizzie couldn't complain as she did love her job, lead reporter and columnist for 'Rock World.' 'Rock World' was the number one online magazine strictly featuring hard rock and metal bands, her dream job. Along with reporting, Lizzie also wrote erotic fan fiction for the magazine. Her stories were popular both with readers and the rock stars who were the subjects. She was looking through her list of story ideas, trying to decide what to write next. Nothing seemed to excite her lately. Or at least it didn't until her phone rang.

Lizzie Gardner, how may I help you?

Good Morning, Lizzie. My name is Joe Daniels, and I'm the tour manager for Dark Horse.

Wow, Dark Horse is one of my all-time favorite bands. Andy York is an amazing guitarist.

Glad to hear you're a fan. He also happens to be a fan of yours.

    She replied in disbelief, Really?

Absolutely. Andy loves your band features and your erotic fan fiction stories, especially the ones he has been the subject of.

Suddenly feeling embarrassed, Lizzie ignored Joe's last statement and replied, What can I do for you, Mr. Daniels?

Joe is fine. Dark Horse has a tour coming up, starting in Los Angeles, and Andy would like you to do a feature for Rock World. He wants to fly you to LA and have you as his guest for the show. He will give you an exclusive interview and access to the show itself as well as any backstage activities.

That sounds amazing. I will need to run it past Scott, my boss, to make sure he can spare me.

No need, I spoke with him first, and he is on board. The tour kicks off in May, so once we work out the details for your visit, I will be back in touch with you. Andy mentioned that he also may reach out prior so he can talk to you about some ideas he has.

Sounds perfect. I'm excited, and I thank you so much for the opportunity. Have a great weekend.

    You as well.

After they disconnected, her stomach suddenly filled with butterflies at the mere thought of meeting and hanging out with her all-time favorite guitarist. She knew he would never give her a second look beyond her job. Men always seemed to prefer blonde-haired, blue-eyed women with little more than air in their heads. That left a red-headed, green-eyed college graduate with very few options in the romance department. Today was especially tough, being that it was Valentine's Day. As always, her date would be her TV. She was about to pack up and head home for another lonely night when her phone rang.

Rock World, this is Lizzie Gardner.

Hi, Lizzie. I'm Andy York. I believe you spoke with my tour manager earlier.

She was so starstruck hearing from him, she didn't respond. He had gorgeous brown hair, and his blue eyes were like staring out into the ocean. She was completely mesmerized and didn't realize she was sitting there with her mouth hanging open like an idiot.

She snapped out of it when she heard Andy say, Hello, Lizzie, are you still there?

Yes, I'm sorry. I was just a bit surprised to hear from you this soon, Andy.

I thought it would be good to start to get to you know you a bit before you head out here.

But it's Valentine's Day. Certainly, there is a beautiful blonde waiting for you.

Sadly, no, I'm alone. And to be honest, I'm not a big fan of blondes. I prefer the fire of a redhead. I won't keep you tonight since I'm sure you have a man waiting at home for you, given the type of stories you write. How about we schedule a time to talk next week?

I do not, sadly. I was married, but we have been divorced for five years.

I am so sorry to hear that. Since we are both without plans, would you like to chat tonight?

If you wouldn't mind waiting an hour or so, I was about to leave the office, and I would rather chat from home.

That would be great. If you want, we could eat dinner together on the chat. That way, even though we aren't together, we both have a dinner date for Valentine's Day.

Smiling, Lizzie replied, That sounds like fun, Andy.

Great. Where can I send a link to a chat room meeting?

She gave Andy her email address. They disconnected after agreeing upon a time to meet later. Lizzie had a strange feeling in her stomach. She was unsure if it was excitement, nerves, or a combination of the two. No matter which it was, this was the most alive she had felt in quite some time.

She finished gathering up her things and headed home, stopping for dinner on the way since they had agreed to eat together during their video chat. Lizzie pulled into her driveway, opened the garage, and parked. Lizzie lived in a middle-class suburban neighborhood. Her house was a beautiful rancher with a large front and back yard. The front door opened into her spacious living room, painted a pretty shade of teal.

The kitchen was off to the living room's right. The kitchen had a door to the garage, convenient when Lizzie had groceries to carry in. The living also led to a short hallway, where the bedroom, bathroom, and home office were located. Each room was painted in a different bright color, just like the living room. As much as Lizzie loved her house, though, she wished she had someone to share it with. She was growing tired of being lonely.

Lizzie walked down the hallway to her bedroom, got undressed, and headed to the bathroom for a shower. Once Lizzie was done, she brushed and blow-dried her hair and put on some makeup, not that it would help. Her ex-husband always made sure she knew how unattractive she was, especially compared to the blonde down the street. Lizzie headed back to her bedroom to get dressed.

On a typical Friday night, Lizzie would have gotten into her pajamas. However, she certainly wasn't going to have a video call with her favorite guitarist dressed in pajamas. Instead, Lizzie opted for jeans and one of her many Dark Horse t-shirts. They had agreed to talk at 8 o'clock, so she clicked the link Andy sent her a few minutes before then, not wanting to keep him waiting. Lizzie had her dinner and a glass of wine with her. The wine mainly helped calm her nerves as she prepared to talk with one of her idols. Andy joined shortly after her and smiled when he saw her on the video.

Andy was wearing a black button-down shirt which, much to her delight, was completely unbuttoned. The sight of his muscular chest took her breath away, but she quickly composed herself, hoping he didn't notice. Just keep behaving professionally, she thought to herself. But damn, he was one good-looking man! Lizzie's mind started wandering, and dirty thoughts filled her brain. I wonder what he looks like naked, she thought to herself. His voice interrupted her reverie.

Hi, Lizzie. I'm glad you had the time to talk to me tonight, although I do feel bad that neither of us has a date on this night of all nights. I must comment on your shirt! Thank you for supporting my band.

Hi Andy, thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Your music has helped me through quite a bit in my life.

His smile grew wider, and her heart melted. She had to pull herself together. This was just another person she was speaking with for an interview. But why did it feel so different then, she thought to herself. Lizzie asked Andy what drove him to a career in music. Andy replied, Even as a small child, I was drawn to music. I first picked up a guitar in music class and never looked back. My brother Alex and I always knew we wanted a music career. I'm fortunate that forty years later, I can still do the thing I love most. Touring and performing on stage is where I feel most at home.

Andy asked, Why did you become a writer?

Lizzie explained, When I was a little girl, I didn't have a lot of friends. Instead, I spent all my time reading. My love of books eventually led me to a job as a writer. That, combined with my love of rock music, brought me to 'Rock World.' I have been able to meet so many of the rock stars I admire. Even better is that I will soon get to meet my all-time favorite, you!

Thank you, Lizzie. You are sweet for saying that. I must say, I find it hard to believe you didn't have a lot of friends.

I had my entire puberty the summer between fourth and fifth grade. I grew to the height I am now, 5'7, and went right to an adult bra. The other kids made fun of me. Nobody wanted to be friends with the freak that looked more like a teacher than a classmate."

Well, I'm glad we can be friends now, Lizzie.

    Me too, Andy.

Lizzie also told Andy that she understood how he felt about not having that special someone. Lizzie had won a few awards for her writing. She never had anyone to take to the ceremonies or share the good news with. When Andy asked her what happened with her marriage, Lizzie hesitated then respond, It just didn’t work out. Andy had a feeling there was more to it, but he didn’t want to push her.

After talking for a couple of hours, they were about to wrap up the call when Andy said something that caught her off guard. Lizzie, I enjoyed talking with you tonight. Would you be willing to set up a regular time for us to talk every few days, or whatever works for you?

That is nice of you to say, Andy, but why would you want to waste time talking with a nobody like me. You're a big-time rock star.

Please don't say that. I deal with so many fake people who only interact with me to get something out of it, but I don't feel that way with you. Not to mention, and please forgive me if this is inappropriate, but you are quite beautiful. She blushed, not quite knowing what to say to the compliment he just paid her, especially since she knew it wasn't the truth. Instead, she chose to focus on future video chats. They both agreed to talk once a week until it was time for her to head out to LA for their concert. After they disconnected the call, she found herself grinning from ear to ear.

Exhausted from her day, she went to bed shortly after their call. She closed her eyes, and all she could see was Andy's face. When she awoke Saturday morning, she made herself some breakfast then headed out to the grocery store, blasting Dark Horse music in her car. She couldn't seem to get Andy off her mind. Once Lizzie returned home and put her groceries away, she finished up the rest of her housework then headed to her home office.

Lizzie turned on her laptop and made some notes for her story. Her boss asked for an outline on Monday, so Lizzie figured she would get a head start. Just once, Lizzie wished her weekend would include something other than being home alone. She knew, though, that she would never be enough for anyone. Lizzie pushed that thought out of her head and got back to work. Once she was satisfied with her outline, Lizzie emailed it to her boss. She spent the next couple of hours checking her email. Lizzie's eyes were drawn to an email from Andy. She was suddenly afraid he had changed his mind about her. Lizzie opened the email and couldn't believe what Andy said.

    Lizzie,

I wanted to again say thank you for our call last night. You are the kindest, most beautiful woman I have encountered in quite some time. I look forward to the chance to get to know you even better. I am excited about the opportunity to meet you in person. Until our next call, take care!

    Your new friend,

    Andy

Lizzie sat there, just staring at his words. That was the kindest thing anyone had said to her in a long time. After staring off into space for a little while, she started feeling hungry and glanced at the clock. It was now early evening, so Lizzie went to the kitchen and made herself some dinner, then sat down to watch TV. Andy's going to be sorry he picked a total bore like me to partner with. I bet his Saturday night is one million times more exciting than mine, she thought to herself. Lizzie went to bed a few hours later. Of course, she had trouble falling asleep. She instead just laid there thinking about Andy until she finally fell into a restless sleep.

Lizzie woke up Sunday morning still feeling exhausted. She had tossed and turned all night, mainly due to not being able to stop thinking about Andy. Her feelings for him were more intense than they should be, given the short amount of time she'd known him. Is it possible that he's the one I've been looking for? Even if he is, I would never be the one for him, though, Lizzie thought to herself. Lizzie never let herself forget the things her ex- said to her, especially that night that he left her. There’s no way there could be a woman uglier than you in this world, Lizzie. You will never be enough for any man. Oh, and by the way, you call yourself a writer? That shit you write is nothing but smut and moronic drivel. Lizzie felt her eyes fill with tears as she remembered some of the other horrible things that he said to her over the years.

Lizzie spent the rest of the day researching Andy and Dark Horse and working on some fan fiction. The story Lizzie started writing was incredibly steamy, inspired by her newly discovered feelings for Andy. She’d written about him before, but this one was more intense and kinkier than what she usually wrote. Lizzie didn’t think she would ever submit this to her boss, as she would be mortified if Andy ever saw this.

Once dinnertime rolled around, Lizzie had a bowl of cereal then decided to take a long walk, hoping that would help her sleep better tonight. She walked around her neighborhood for over an hour, hoping it would take her mind off of Andy. No such luck. His face continued to invade Lizzie’s thoughts. Once Lizzie returned home, she changed into her pajamas and sat down to read, another activity that usually helped clear her thoughts. However, just like her walk, reading did not help, so she gave up and went to bed. I bet Andy’s weekend was a thousand times more exciting than mine, Lizzie thought to herself before drifting off to another restless night’s sleep. That was just what she needed when she had to be at work early the following day.

Contrary to what Lizzie thought, Andy’s weekend wasn’t any more exciting than hers. Andy woke up and did his housework. He never forgot his humble beginnings and refused to hire a cleaning staff when he could do the work himself. After finishing, Andy went out and did some clothes shopping. He wanted to look good for Lizzie. By the time Andy got back home, it was late afternoon. After putting his purchases away, Andy made himself some dinner then headed down to his studio to work on some songs.

As all the other guys in the band were married, Andy was home alone as usual. He would love to have had someone to spend time with. Truthfully, Andy wanted Lizzie here to spend time with. He had this huge house and nobody to share it with. The first floor of Andy’s home includes his living room, kitchen, home gym, and half-bathroom. The second floor consists of the master bedroom, two guest bedrooms, a full bathroom with shower and soaking tub large enough to fit two adults comfortably, and his home office. Andy’s house also contains a basement, which he turned into a home studio. His beautiful backyard, surrounded by a privacy fence, has an Olympic-sized swimming pool and beautiful flower gardens. Andy went upstairs to his master bedroom to watch TV. As he lay on his bed, he found himself wishing Lizzie was lying next to him. What was it about this woman that had such a hold on me, he thought to himself?

Like Lizzie, Andy’s attempt at sleep on Saturday night did not go well. He laid there most of the night thinking about her. Lizzie was the most beautiful woman Andy had ever seen. He tried to imagine what she would feel like in his arms. Andy got the impression they were more alike than either of them realized. He had a feeling that a lot more had happened in her marriage than what she had told him. Andy wondered if she would ever be willing to talk about it. Would he be able to confide in her what his ex-girlfriend did to him?

Andy dragged himself out of bed on Sunday morning, got dressed, and headed to his home gym for a workout. The
