The Starting Line: Faith in God
We are CREATED in the IMAGE and LIKENESS of GOD. What does that mean? We have INTELLIGENCE, EMOTIONS, CHOICE, and CREATIVITY!
Genesis 1:26-27, 31
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning —the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Commentary
God created us to be in a relationship with him. We are created in God’s image; man has almost unlimited potential. Just look at some of the Wonders of the World, both ancient and new, and it boggles the mind. How did man design and make the monstrous pyramids with the crude tools they had? Look at the beauty of the Taj Mahal, and now the skyscrapers being built in Dubai. Yet, amidst all of man’s potential for great and creative things, we also have the potential for more depravity and cruelty than any creature on the planet.
This is because through Adam and Eve, sin entered the perfect world God had created. What was God’s solution to the predicament of sin? The sacrifice of Jesus, his Son, on the cross.
God’s love language is our obedience to Him!
Isaiah 48:17–18
"This is what the Lord says--your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea."
1 John 2:3–6
We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, I know him,
but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
Commentary
God showed us that he loved us by sending his only Son Jesus to die for us. It was the only way we could be redeemed and given everlasting life.
We are saved from hell when we accept and believe in the sacrifice Jesus made for our sins on the cross.
But how do we show our love for God? We show God our love for him by trusting him and obeying what he says to us in the Bible.
When you see God as a parent, it might be easier to understand. As a father or mother telling your child what to do, you want them to obey you. It is because you have their best interests at heart. You are teaching them skills so that they mature and live healthy lives. In the same way, God wants these things for us. He wants us to mature and live a healthy lifestyle. We are to give honor and glory to God with our lives
