Introduction
––––––––
Food is a crucial part of our survival. What we choose to eat is a true reflection of our culture, values, norms, and traditions. Along with eating, preserving the food is also necessary. In today's modern society, many of us indulge in bad eating habits, which likely creates the urge to go back to the simple lifestyle with much more concentration on home-cooked meals that provide true joy, away from the hustle of modern society. The more and more we indulge in a simple lifestyle, the more we are getting tied to our old values, traditions, and healthy ways of our forebears.
Our grandmother shares enough knowledge and tools to care for our families, the way we lived, and the food choices we made. Learning about food canning is one of the irreplaceable techniques passed to us from our ancestors.
In the past, food canning used to be the most common household duty performed by housewives. The technique of canning is not at all new, as it has been around for thousands of years. Our great grandfathers used to harvest the food that was then stored by housekeepers to feed their families in winters when the garden and farms were bare.
Now, with the ease of grocery stores, and food becoming industrialized, anyone can find inexpensive canned food anytime they want. Thus, home canning becomes much of a sideway process. But with the popularity of healthy eating and home-cooked meals, canning has also become a new buzz in the town.
As the name of this book suggests, the focus is to improve knowledge about Amish canning, and to learn different home canning techniques. So, if you have never canned food, then this book will help you
