About this ebook

“Collateral Beauty” is amazing, heart-breaking, poignant and uplifting, all at the same time. Lauretta Ofulue’s acoustic honesty about living through the loss of her child takes your breath away, yet underneath the sadness of her loss is the powerful choice she makes to comfort her grief, understand it and with the grace of God, turn it into something positive. The writing is powerful and whilst moving the reader emotionally, this book also gives them a truly uplifting message – “what misfortune can bring with it is a new lens from which to view life – a lens that can easily be misplaced or sometimes lost if the only focus is the misfortune. That lens is empowering.” This is a beautiful and thoroughly recommended book – Fr. Emmanuel Okami.

    Preface

    Thank you Otito

I was busy living my life when your path crossed mine by virtue of the singular privilege of birthing you. By pouring my love into making life work despite all the odds, I acquired a new lens - one which even your departure did not deprive me of.

On the outside I am tortured, but within I am richer because now all I see around me are the small mercies that I was never aware of:

I never could see the wealth in deprivation, the strength in weakness and the abundance in scarcity

Through the lens you gave me, I learnt the true meaning of what was important in life.

I realise now how our pain made us stronger, tougher and therefore more able to weather the storm together.

I would have preferred for you to be
