    Dedication

    This book is dedicated

To my parents, Cherian and Valsa, who have selflessly sacrificed for us – their family - and who are the best role models and leaders in our lives.

Also, to my husband Joe and my amazing kids, Kate and Ben, who have loved, supported, taught me lessons, and brought out the best version of me by being the pillars in my life.

And to all the readers and the parents of autistic and neurodiverse kids, you have no idea what an impact you have had on my life (for those I have met already) and to those I hope to meet and connect with in person and virtually!!

We can all be Transformed by Love, and I am a living testimony to this!!!

    Foreword

He walked into the Sunday school classroom and went straight for the toy trucks. His mother called him back and instructed him to say hi to his teacher. He obediently put the truck down and came over, saying a quiet hi.

That first encounter with Ben was more than ten years ago. He was shy, but there was a curiosity in his eyes. Susan told me he was autistic, and a good boy and listened very well. I honestly didn’t have any concerns, as I was an early childhood educator who had worked with many children for 15 years. I also have lived experience with my Neurodiverse adult niece.

However, I was new to Ben, as was the environment. We needed to get acquainted.

Ben, then and now, is a sweet, curious, boy. That said, this boy is now taller than both his Mama and me. Susan is very attentive to both of her children, particularly Ben, as he requires a little more instruction and reminding. Then again, Ben reminds his mom of things, like a particular activity she promised him they would do. Ben’s older sister, Kathryn, is like a second mom to him, and I love how she watches out for him and has his back.

Ben and Kate are encouraged to do their best, and Susan provides them with opportunities that not only challenge them physically but mentally as well. It’s important to her that they have a full and balanced life and understand that they can do anything they set their minds to. I have seen them become more articulate and confident in challenges like public speaking, singing, and dancing for Kathryn, and Ben with his drumming and Taekwondo. Susan knows and models the scripture Philippians 4:13 that says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, and she has instilled this into her children.

Susan is one of the busiest mothers, Occupational Therapists, and friends I have ever met. She is, by all definitions, The Eveready Bunny. She just doesn’t slow down; she keeps going and going and going.

Our friendship began through Ben, and over the years, we have laughed together, cried together over challenges, and celebrated together over life’s victories.

If you know Susan at all, she faces life’s challenges head-on with much confidence and prayer. In her book, she talks about some of her challenges with Ben, work, and family, which she loves dearly, and I know if given a choice, she would spend all her time with them. However, she loves helping other families and their children learn to accomplish and succeed in life’s challenges too. Their success is her success.

She became an Occupational Therapist 24 years ago at University of Mumbai, India. She strives for excellence with her family, patients, business opportunities, and self-improvement, and she encourages the same for those in her life. Susan Cherian-Joseph genuinely cares for her family and patients’ successes and victories beyond being a mother or an Occupational Therapist. She wrote this book for her family, her patients, and especially Ben.

This book is an inspirational source of hope, encouragement, and assistance to anyone facing similar challenges. What I appreciate the most is the author’s honesty and willingness to be vulnerable and to offer help. As you read about their journey, the difficulties, and the victories, may you be filled with hope and know that you too can do all things. It takes faith and time, and people like Susan to show you that even when the road ahead looks rough or even impossible, you can do it, and you are not alone. Just ask the Eveready Susan Bunny.
