Preface to the first edition
Pharmacology is unusual amongst the medical disciplines in having an equally strong pre-‐-clinical and clinical presence. However, most medical schools place the bulk of their training in pharmacology early in their programmes, leaving students comparatively bereft when they reach the active clinical phase. Accordingly, in order to bridge this gap, any text that addresses this subject for medical students must have a real balance of basic pharmacological science and pertinent clinical applications. This book collects important theoretical learning points in pharmacology and combines them with scenarios that a practicing clinician will recognize, to facilitate a more complete understanding of pharmacological medical practice.
The book is for use by medical students approaching significant pharmacology exams, or by students nearing the end of their medical training. The text is divided into four sessions ("mock exams") of mixed multiple choice questions, short answer questions and viva voce (oral) questions. The student is advised to attempt these sessions of questions after they have reviewed their home medical school’s course material.
