    Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff was published in early January 2018, four days ahead of schedule because of skyrocketing demand provoked by President Donald Trump’s attempt to block its publication. The book paints a vivid portrait of bumbling ineptitude on the part of the president and much of his inner circle during the first 200 days of his presidency.

    Everyone in Trump’s campaign, including Trump himself, had concluded that he would never win the election. Trump didn’t want to be president. He just wanted to be the most famous man in the world. Late on election night in 2016, when it became clear that he would win, his son Donald Jr. saw a look of terror cross his father’s face.

    That fear, though, soon morphed into upbeat confidence. Trump, who had already made it clear to the world that he had little understanding of domestic or foreign policy and a tenuous grasp of the English language, believed that he deserved the presidency and that he would indeed make America great again.
