Spirit & Truth - Damon Stuart
Day One
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
(Psalms 51:10-11)
David was a man after God’s own heart. We know this because even Paul states this very truth in Acts 13:22. After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.
We also know about David as a shepherd who killed wild animals in protecting the sheep but also during this time he was a true worshiper and a psalmist in the making. Later he would be appointed by God to rule as King in Israel. David is known, loved and remembered by many around the world still today.
However, there is one thing about David that shows us the core of who he is in God, maintaining that place of brokenness and/or repentance. I believe that David shows us in these two verses, his way, of staying close to the heartbeat of God. He knew that it was more than just being clean; he knew that he had to stay in the presence of God through the Holy Spirit.
We all struggle from time to time with sin; doubt, anxiety, or even the plan God has for our lives which can lead us in other directions. Today I want to encourage you to ask God to give you a clean heart from everything. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you are away from God; you just want Him to give you His heart for today! Ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill you fresh and new again. Worship God for how great He is despite what your mind is saying. God’s mind is already made up about you anyway and it’s always for your good. Only God can satisfy your soul so let Him come and surround you with His presence today.
Day Two
Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.
And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (Matthew 15:28)
There is a classic, powerful hymn entitled Great is Thy Faithfulness
that many sing today. While the song is a strong reminder of who God is in the midst of our situations, the question I ask is how great is our faith towards
