    About the Author

    Bibliography

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to the blessed memory of my late mother, Josephine Oluyemi Adeliyi, a symbol of humility, love and faithfulness. The one whose love for me knew no bounds and whose adoration of and belief in me continue to stupefy me!

    And

To my late father, Olatoye Adegboyega Adeliyi: my teacher, devoted friend, mentor, hero and greatest cheerleader. You were the true epitome of success. You were selfless, brave, inspiring, understanding and always giving. Always nudging me to strive for excellence. In life, you towered above all, yet you were humble. In death, you live on continually. You touched every life you came across and left your giant footprints on the sands of time.

    Sleep well, beloved father.

    And

To God, the source of all inspiration.

High Praises for Echoes of My Father

This book is a beautiful, brilliant read. It is a grand combination of knowledge and life lessons learnt in rich detail. It is utterly fascinating how everyday life, self-discovery, and the philosophy of life are captured in the author's simple storytelling. A great book!

The essence of being a supreme educator is in understanding that we never stop learning. It’s never about the destination but always about the journey. Echoes of My Father is packed full of wisdom and humour, but it is the subtitle A Legacy of Empowerment that resonates with those of us who are proud to know Tola Adeliyi today. Empowered? Yes, but more: now the embodiment of the sage assurance his father epitomised. A phrase, anecdote, and unassuming observations empower us to reflect on our values, dealings with others, beliefs and aspirations. A must-read for 2021.

    David Payne

    Former Headteacher, Bromley, UK

"As a parent of teenagers, I am always looking for books to inspire positive change and vision in my children. Having read many motivational books, I have nothing but praises for the author of Echoes of My Father (A Legacy of Empowerment). This book is well written, insightful, and excellently conveys vital life lessons.

I highly recommend this book to encourage anyone, especially teenagers, to reach their full potential. Chapter 2 on ‘Leadership’ and Chapter 4, called ‘Freedom to Excel’, are a must-read for all students, teenagers, young adults, and parents genuinely interested in seeing change. Highly recommended!"

    Laura Williams

(Parent and Business Owner, Surrey, UK)

Mr Tola makes a remarkable impact on everyone who treads his path. Not only is he an incredible mentor to me, but my classmates also view him as an important source of wisdom and guidance. He is the epitome of what I think teachers should be. I am blessed to know Mr Tola in real life. Those who do not will get to know him and benefit from the rich knowledge and wisdom he offers through this book. Buy, read, and tell others about it!

    Moza Alzaabi

    (6th Form Student, SRS)

Mr Tola is one of the most genuine and caring teachers I have ever met. He is like a big brother as well. He always had my back whenever I had problems or needed advice. I have often wondered how a person could be so well put together, empowered and influential. This masterpiece provides answers to how he became such an impactful figure in my school community. In it, Mr Tola shares both his father’s wisdom and life lessons that significantly contributed to his development, which he passes on to his students. I believe this book will contribute to your development and empowerment as a student, young adult, parent, or anyone who gets to read it.

    Mohammed Ahmed Baghoum

    (Grade 12 Student, SRS)

"This book is captivating. The author’s rich experience, backed by the clever presentation of his father’s wisdom, makes the content very practical and relatable. Many of us are merchants of excuses, but Chapter 4 shatters this deception! Echoes of my Father should not only be read by young people but by everyone who desires to live a distinguished life."

    Foreword

This is the second book of Tola’s that I have had the privilege to read and upon which to comment. Medicine for the Youthful Mind and this fantastic volume share common features in discussing aspiration, hope and action. Most of all, they speak of love: the love of life, family and all with whom we cross paths.

In this insightful and delightful reflection and testament to the father who helped shape so much of Tola’s life, one thing is clear. Alongside his high aspirations and strong belief in their future was the late Mr Adeliyi’s unconditional love for his children. This is also true of my friend. He is empathic, thoughtful, and entirely giving himself and time, never more so than when working to maximise young people’s life chances.

I could say since I have known and been inspired by this wonderful colleague and friend, I never had the privilege to meet his father, but having read this book and knowing Tola as I do, that would be a falsehood. Every time our paths cross, Tola may not be wearing his father’s oversized shoes, but he walks, talks and loves in the light his father left behind.

Tola says this book, like his last, is written to inspire. Inspire you; it will.

    Introduction

It was a sunny Saturday, June 11, 2011. I had gone to work on a piano project with one of my friends, Newton. We were putting together piano chords to support some popular songs to aid children’s learning. Everything was going on smoothly until my phone rang.
