Wonki Lee
Despite the negative perspectives of his friends on the decision that he’d made, Wonki Lee started his journey to marriage life early when he was twenty one years old and is now a father of two charming children after four years of his marriage. His journey to acquiring the English language, however, has been about two decades. In the midst of his journey to mastering English, he has experienced a deep frustration that many of his fellow learners of the language experience on a day to day basis. He tells himself that he has walked a solitary journey. His English teachers publicly made fun of his various attempts in trying something new in the language. His friends told him that there is no future in what he was doing for the language. But, he insisted to keep walking in the path because he didn’t know any other way. After years of quiet pondering and seeking moments, he found it. He found the small peace, which he desperately wanted.

Acknowledgement
To my dear Mom and Dad
For their faith in me
I walk the same path that you walk
You do not know me yet, but I know you
You are all my brothers and sisters
You are about to see the same thing that I see
And you are about to feel the same thing that I feel
Thus, you and I are to become united
Through this dear letter to you
-Wonki Lee
Based on his personal experiences and self-reflection, Wonki Lee has provided a wonderful set of ideas and insights for those seeking to learn English as a second language. In a friendly and helpful style, he has laid out a set of guidelines for how one becomes a self-directed and independent learner of English, taking personal responsibility both for what is learned and how it is learned. He includes his own observations on experiencing teachers of English as trainers and helpful assistants, rather than tour guides or experts. Based on firsthand experiences over many years of study, Wonki Lee shows the reader how and why they need to take responsibility for their own learning and what that means regarding their approach to English. This book should help all learners of English become more thoughtful regarding their motivation, approach and goals in learning English.

In my reading of Wonki Lee’s manuscript
Disruptive Repetition in English I was intrigued with his hypothesis of English language learning and the factors that apply to mastering one of the world’s most difficult languages. I spend much of my free time working with young missionaries who are in the process of learning an equally difficult language, Korean. It has become abundantly clear that the process for rapid learning and retention is very much influenced by the factors that Wonki Lee enumerates. Namely, Constant repetition based on the principle that output is a function of input. In other words, it requires determined effort and cannot be approached casually. It requires focused attention that blocks out distractions by creating an environment where learning the language is the paramount objective. It also requires patience and belief in oneself that this too can be accomplished. There are simple and basic learning principles described in Wonki Lee’s writings, if applied, can be of great worth to those looking to master the English language.
