    W. E. Radford was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on October 9, 1972. He was raised in a small farming town north of the Red River called Temple, Oklahoma, where he continued to live until the end of 2003. He moved with his high school sweetheart to Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Their stay there was brief. They then moved to his grandparents’ hometown in Eakly, Oklahoma, in the summer of 2005. He continues to live there with his wife and children. They have a total of six beautiful daughters, along with several animals. They also have two grandchildren: Syrinity Marie, born in September 2012, and Jacob Lewis, who was born in September 2014.

      CHAPTER ONE

      Getting to Know Everyone

      After making a good business deal, Bill decided to go on and drive home. Even though it was late and a long trip home, Bill couldn’t wait to get home to share the happy news with his family. While driving into the night and after hours on the road, Bill was starting to get tired. Finally, the radio began to play some good tunes. Still, the long, dark two-lane highway seemed like it would never end. The thought of getting home to his family was what was keeping Bill focused. It appeared to be one of those strange nights. You know, the night driving through patches of fog every so often—not hot but not cold, a good, even temperature. The road was long and narrow with deep darkness. It’s almost like driving through a tunnel.

      Just coming out of one of those patches of fog, out of nowhere, Bill started seeing something coming toward his pickup, then crash.

      Bill was not like your average worker living off a paycheck from a steady job. He mostly worked odd and short-term jobs.

      Bill never turned away any work he could find. It always seemed like he was down on his luck. Just about the time Bill started liking a job, it would end. Like the time Bill went to work for a subcontractor running new sewer lines for the city lagoons. This job only lasted about four months, but the pay was good. Bill managed to pay bills for six or seven months. Bill really enjoyed running a backhoe. But three months later, the job was over. Even though Bill got a good bonus after the job was over, he always thought it would have been nice to go and work for that company. Wouldn’t you know, they only needed someone for that job. Bill usually worked the jobs that no one else wanted to do, like digging ditches, mowing lawns, cleaning out last year’s sour wheat bins, and working with farmers fixing fences and tending to their cattle. Working on a backhoe always reminded Bill of his dad, grandpa, and uncle John; they were plumbers. When Bill was a young boy, he got to go to work with them often, sometimes even got to drive the backhoe to jobs in town.

      When Bill was eight years old, Jeff Sr. and Sherry, Bill’s parents, got a divorce. They had three children: Jeff Jr., Bill, and Wiley. About a year or so later, Bill’s mom, Sherry, got remarried to a man named Doug. Bill’s dad, Jeff Sr., also got remarried to a lady named
