Sacred Relationships - Dr. Kate Pola Brooks
RELATIONSHIP – RELATIONSHIP – RELATIONSHIP
The entirety of our lives is an ongoing and unending series of relationships. All of our existence is predicated on, relating to the world around us, and the people that come into our lives. No moment passes that we are not engaged in many levels and forms of relating. When we understand why and to whom and for what reasons we are in relationship – then we understand our purpose and our capacities, our successes and our failures.
Our life comes into perspective through and because of, our relationships.
Relationship with another human being is one of the most difficult, distracting, and tumultuous, delightful, endearing and destined areas of life. There are times when we desire it with desperation and times when we deny it with distain. We, as human beings are, in fundamental confusion about the subject of relationship and yet we spend nearly all of our lives in relationship with others. We have social, institutional, political and business relationships. We have relationships with children and extended family, friends, mates and partners. No matter how alone one might feel at any particular period of life, there remains an unending stream of relationships with all the people around us. Some of these are transitory and others are life long. Some are frustrating and some are fulfilling. The most interesting thing about these relationships is that they are all important. Each relationship, no matter how short or long, vexing or sustaining, is an opportunity and a responsibility. No relationship is without importance or merit. Each relationship brings us into the Sacred Space of another Human Being. Every relationship is a lesson in the honoring of Self and others. Without fail or reserve, every relationship is part of our Life Path and our Becoming
more whole and in touch with our Self. Each relationship is also a part of the Path and Becoming of the other with whom we are dealing. At all levels; physical, mental, emotional, soul and spirit, the relationship is the point of connection. Every thought, word, action and intention is telling of the degree of understanding, compassion, development and motivation of each participant. Every relationship becomes:
Sacred,
for all that it requires of us, and all that it offers to us.
THE ART AND THE CRAFT OF RELATIONSHIP
How Relationships are Built
All relationships, with the person you greet on the street or speak to in the grocery, between parents and children, with a friend, a roommate, a co-worker, or your life partner are an opportunity for precious interaction. Most people, on most days, are not thinking of the art of relating or the craft of daily interactions. Most are not considering the Soul before them as they relate. Most of us are forgetful of the trust and the comfort that is found in the company of others. We are usually not thoughtful of the ‘relationship’ at all! Most people are thinking of the personality, the situation, the reward or deprivation that is perceived. We are seldom aware of the ‘Being of Light’ that is before us (however hidden in layers of personality and circumstance). We commonly use our finite senses to see, to hear, to touch and, in all ways, to judge with whom we are relating. We forget that we also have more refined sensibilities that allow us to perceive so much more about the Soul with whom we are relating, to ‘know’ more of his personhood and, at the same time, know more of our Self. When we ‘know’ and are cognizant, we recognize more about what is really going on between our self and another so, we are freer to assess the interaction and the subject, without judgment.
Our relationships are crafted; designed and built; moment-by-moment, day-by-day. In myriad small ways, each decision and every action taken will foster how, both our individual and our collective selves will relate to our Self, each other and our world. We build our characters and our personalities as individuals and as societies by the ways we decide to relate to one another. The habits of our parents and the generations of our society, conform our thoughts and activities until we decide to forge our own authentic relationship with and within our Self as well as,
with our world and the others in our world.
How rare to find the trustworthy Soul who is not bound by any imprints of family or society but is so grounded in Truth, that only the moment and the interaction form reality. Here, the slate is clean and the relationship may be crafted by the gifts of each participant. It is at this moment that the relationship becomes an art; by the result it produces. The bond of such a relationship engenders a profound imprint of well being on the participants. The relationship allows a true representation of each to the other with no bias from past and similar experience, no encumbrance of social expectation, no clotting of the blood of humanity by prejudice or self- interest. This is when relationship, in its purest form, bolsters the
creativity and progressive contributions
of each and all.
THE DUALITY WITHIN RELATIONSHIP
Separation from our Loving Capacity
Relationship, for human beings, is a unique safe guard but sometimes appears to be a bitter difficulty. It is the one area of life that seems to continually present challenges and yet, we cannot forego it, as it is the yearning desire of our hearts.
Relationship offers endless dichotomy and therefore the greatest opportunity to grow.
Relationship has always been this way. Some societies, at several points of our known history, may have done quite well at creating beneficial relationships and some have created destruction. Always, the dilemmas and dualities of this part of our lives are being redefined according to our understanding as individuals and societies and our degree of desire to ‘know and grow’.
Occasionally people may not wish to invest in, or understand, the effort, thought, compassion, and generosity of spirit that relationship requires. This is especially true when life seems fearsome and there is a belief that there will not be ‘enough’ for all. People often excuse themselves from relationship in its many forms, by siting past hurts, and future expectations and assumptions.
How a person views his ‘world’ on the inside, is how he will bear his relationships on the outside.
The fettered heart is not free to love, but the heart that is free, creates love!
In the modern world, fast paced, expedient, throw away societies create fast paced, expedient, throw away, relationships. The influence of mass media and mass unconsciousness has polluted the most far-reaching and primal parts of the earth and its inhabitants and habitats. In a world where the material aspect of life is sought after and movement to any part of the globe is possible, there is a growing attitude that there is always another person, or the tantalizing possibility of another option, just around the next corner. Why not explore every potential but settle on none when the jackpot
may be on its way? Why invest in a trust of friendship and mutual support, when we may be separated or grow apart
. Why bother to be honorable in the workplace, when the job may end. What happens to morale when the workplace no longer acts honorably toward the worker? What becomes of a culture that has been adulterated with materialism, cultural and political prejudice, impeachment of civil rights and liberties, stagnation of progressive individual and societal development?
Confusion about our primal purpose as well as lack of personal ethics and willing responsibility to contribute to the greater wellbeing
dislodges the necessary focus on that which would reverse these trends and bring the world back
into a State of Harmony.
This fundamental lack of human integrity also infuses fear, that nothing can be done on the part of the individual and that nothing will be done on the part of those who have both the power and the means, but also the obligation and responsibility, to bring about transformation.
The distance between people has become more than time and space. It has become a gulf of misinformation and bias… to be forded, no matter whether the person is a neighbor, a relative, or a companion. The fact is; friends, workmates, family members and life-mates, institutions and nations are being
Separated; by misunderstanding, confusion, indifference and dysfunction of the
‘Loving Capacity’!
There is now, and for some people, there has always been, an attitude that every whim should be satisfied like fast food and that all relationships are merely passing events with no intrinsic value.
Most especially when there are feelings of misunderstanding, being let down or of love lost, or where power of one type or another, has transgressed the norms of human dignity, there seems to be no context in which to understand why and how and what… relationship is.
The loss and abandonment of even the most basic relationships,
such as marriage, parent and child and those within the extended family, has frightened even the heartiest and staunchest of persons, from belief in the potential of relationship.
In witnessing that those who have been given the responsibility and the privilege of tending to the physical, emotional, spiritual and planetary needs of the populaces have abandoned their posts and opted for short term gains and long term misappropriations, it is evident that this further disillusions the individual from the cause of his life.
When a person has lost perspective, lives within a warp of fear, and can not recuperate his innate connection to himself and others, the individual
feels alone and loses connection within… as well as… without.
Yet as a ‘Being of the Light’, it becomes our right, but also our duty to recuperate our natural capacity to engage in the highest caliber of relationship.
As long as we are in this world, we will inevitably have to relate to others. It is, at the same time, through this path, that we get to uncover our own true Self. In fact, relating to another is as inevitable as the sun promising a new day. It is how we view relationship with another and the decisions and actions we take within the relationship that will create what the relationship will be.
The first step must be, learning to love the Self. Without that ‘loving capacity’ firmly in place, we are not able to extend love to others. So often we witness those who try to be kind, understanding, humanitarian, high minded and engage in loving relationships, but they seem to fail. The effort feels very tenuous, even discordant. The reason is usually founded in lack of love for the Self. Notice that, we are speaking here of the ‘Self’. This represents the Soul (Being of Light) that we were before we entered this realm, that we are in our current state, (though we may have lost sight of that understanding) and that we will carry on Being, after we shed this realm. The most awakened state is one where we are aware at all times, of our Self and we can love that Self, be grateful to ‘Be’ that Self and acknowledge our proper place in our world… as a Soulful contributor to it. When we feel confirmed that we are such a Being, we find a feeling of harmony within and balance without, acceptance of our highest Self and knowledge of our status as an ever-evolving Being. We are then… at Peace! This does not translate that we have no work to be done or difficulties to surmount, a perfected character or high-minded personality. It means that we accept our Soul Self and are grateful for our opportunities and are purposeful in our actions to Become all of those things.
This is the Path of Joy!
The means of finding this inner peace and outer place… is through one simple action. This action may seem foreign at the start, but when we engage in this most primary relationship, we will find Self-acceptance! This does not necessarily mean that we have no faults and life is perfect. It means that we are meant to find this State of Harmony and Balance in spite of all the hardships and losses that we experience in this realm. The means to finding Harmony and Balance is recognition that we are ‘known and loved’ in the Realm that we have emerged from and that our protection, guidance and enduring light will sustain through our lifetime and continue to ‘Be’ after we depart this Realm.
Practice makes perfect.
We struggle in this life to ‘see’ our Self because we are buried under a heap of experiential perception that we believe is ‘reality’. We easily lose sight of our ‘primary manifestation’ as a Being of the Light and begin to spiral downward into the abyss of self-negation and self-loathing. We come to believe that the vicissitudes that we experience within our family, our place on the planet and the times we live in, are the truth of life and these discolor our belief in our Self.
It is our primary duty to reconnect to our understanding of loving the Self so that we can build the fundamental foundation to love others and engage in all levels of Relationship.
What appears to be the duality of desiring to love and be loved yet living in a world that seems to not know or act upon love is, in fact, a perfect unity of balance, within a diversity of opportunities.
What appears to be an opposite and conflicting dichotomy;
actually provides the
Sacred Space to practice ‘Becoming’ more of our True Self,
as it does for all those we are in relationship with.
As we progress though the process of building relationship we will see how this works and why every relationship is indeed, a Sacred Relationship
of perfectly matched energies.
THE GREAT WHEEL OF LIFE
The Integrity of Inter-Relatedness
No matter the culture or society, through out time, man has had his
placement in the greater scheme of ever evolving life. Ancient and
indigenous peoples have developed myths and mappings of this ‘order’ in
the Universe. In these traditions, all aspects of life are accepted as
whole and complete unto themselves and in relationship to each other.
Thus the Directions; North, South, East, West, Above and Below and the Elements, Water, Earth, Air, and Fire, and Solid, Liquid, Ether; the seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter; Time and Eternity; the earthly realms of the Mineral Kingdom, the Plant Kingdom and that of the Animal Kingdom, the Human Kingdom and beyond these; the Divine Kingdom,
are, symbiotic and function as One.
They are a Sacred Hoop; cyclical, enduring, unending, interconnected.
Our ‘relationships’ to the Earth and our ‘brethren’ on the Earth
are telling of, our relationship to ourselves.
What we honor within is relative to, how we will honor without.
Where Man has disregarded his ‘relationship’ with the forces and fellow inhabitants of this realm, only destruction and desolation have resulted. Where Man has respected the integrity of the Earth and all that it bears, harmony has been maintained.
The path of Man is one that evolves personally through life times of Soul Evolution and Familial Progression, and socially through the agencies of Family, Clan, Community, Culture, Society, Nation and now, the World Community. All that a Human Being creates from his personal evolutional history as well as in his lifetime culminates in, the Vibrational Resonance that each emanates, individually. Every life is synergistically entwined with all others, to form the Collective Consciousness and the Collective Life-Stream. The state of our individual and collective consciousness forms the State of the World, as we are all related and are inter-related. We are literally distant cousins, springing from the same genesis of Humanity.
We are the constant creation of our reality in relative relationship to,
our Self, one another and our world!!
The ancient
ways teach us that we are continuously embarking on new cycles of evolution. Time is, in actuality, cyclical, not linear. We are processing through the ‘Sacred Hoop’, also recognized as the Sacred Spiral, Medicine Wheel, Mandala… of time, on multitudinous levels and in multiple areas of our development. There can be many ‘new beginnings’ occurring in any of the various arenas of our life, from our Soul Progression and individual consciousness to family evolution and social/communal development, as we progress through each moment. These new beginnings are actually not new, but a new level of understanding and endeavor consequent to the level of understanding and endeavor that we had just previously been working on. We are actually functionally evolving many aspects of our ‘Being’ at any particular and all times. We continually proceed on a progressive spiral of new development within each and all of the arenas of our lives (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual as well as an interactive social/communal levels). Each area of our life and each part of our building of Self
requires developing and enhancing… through thought, introspection, willingness and action.
Introspection is a portion of what is often termed conscience. We must go deeply and with great honesty, into whom we are allowing our Self to ‘Become’ and how we are proceeding to do that. The end result of each cycle of development, in any area of life, has an outcome;
‘that which we have wrought’.
At all times, we are under the tender, watchful ‘Eye’ of the Universal Force. We are given grounding and nurturance by the Mother
Earth Realm energies. We are propelled toward our destiny through the Father
Force energy of the Celestial Realm. These Energies juxtapose each other, and yet with absolute unity within that diversity, are constantly creating the
Universal Force Field of Perfection.
This represents the
Sacred Hoop within Relationship.
The balanced harmonics of the Yin and the Yang; the mutual counterparts of the masculine and the feminine, create an energy loop of magnetic polarity. These opposing
forces are the perfect match: each balancing the other. Neither is less than… nor greater than, the other. One without the other is dysfunctional and cannot support life. The Earth itself and everything in the Universe, is in a
constant pulsing of what we call North and South [male (yang) and female (yin)] Polarity.
A Sacred Hoop of Energies.
SACRED MEDICINE WHEEL
The Earth, each element, every plant, all of the animals and each individual human are made up of a:
Fusion, of innumerable pulsations, which are tuned to
Specific frequencies, and each
Rate, of the pulsing frequencies results in
Vibration, that creates the active or Alive
state of the creation, as
Frequencies, that combine, to create each one’s individualized vibrational
Resonance, which is interwoven and combined vibrational energy, forming the
‘Harmonic Chord’ that is Life … which is the Dynamic state resulting from the vibratory eminences and combined resonances, each having a
Nucleus or ‘Heartbeat’… which transforms and develops all levels of the ‘Alive state’ into the ‘Meaningful state’.
It is the harmonization of these energies, collectively; that stimulate, transform and re-create the
Energetic Formation of this Realm.
Each form of life, from the atom and molecule to any living entity or person, has a center or nucleus. From that Heart
or nucleus vibrates a harmony of perfectly interwoven energies and unique resonances for that particular form of life.
The Heart
forms the center, which is perfectly at harmony between the
force of the Mother
and the force of the Father
.
The Force of the Yin or Mother is that of love for the Soul Self, nurturance of others, creation, procreation and the creative spirit, unity within and with others. The Force of the Yang or Father is that of individuality and universality, spontaneous and linear thought and evolution, protection and development, love and unity of and for the collective whole.
Each Force supports the other and together, they form the model of unity within diversity. Each also forms the foundation upon which the other must rest. Each combines its individual Force with the other to create the continuity of the Life Force.
This Universal format is in evidence from the single cell to the organism of the Human Being. It is the same format that is manifest in the energy of a crystal, which transmits energy, or the energy of a thought, which transmits intellect. Every aspect of our world
adheres to this,
‘perfection of planning, and harmony of function’.
This is yet another representation of the cyclical
Sacred Hoop of All Relativity.
This is the
Universal Relationship!

The Levels and Degrees of Relationship
Relationship has levels or degrees according to the application. We, as Human Beings, considered the highest life form, have a responsibility in relation to the Earth and everything upon it. We hold a GUARDIANSHIP to ensure the care and protection and right use of the eco systems of the earth. Traditionally it is taught that the minerals, the plants, the animals are actually, our brethren in life. They make up the earth under our feet and provide the sustenance of our lives. We serve them by being responsible and protective toward them as they
nourish and provide for our existence.
We also have a relationship to all of our fellow man. We hold the state of BENEFACTOR to each and every soul and we can fulfill that relationship by good works and service to others. Good works might be any act of good will and sincere helpfulness. Service to others is attitude in action. Kindliness is the willingness to respond lovingly toward all. Service through your work, no matter what it might be, is a consciousness of the role you play in providing for others by your service or product, art or craft as well as the obvious provision of livelihood for yourself and family. Each member of the Human family is providing a share toward everyone’s well being. Those who hold Title over others, be it President, Royalty, Chief, representative or any other title, hold a manifold responsibility for every single soul over whom they preside. Their title entitles them to nothing, but obligates them to care for and benefit their subjects.
Becoming the DEFENDER AND EDUCATOR of all children and youth is the obligation and honor of all adults. A Human Being is in relationship with anyone who is younger than him self. Therefore, an eight year old has a protective and educative role with his juniors, just as a youth has the honor to set an example and provide assistance to those who are younger.
Certainly, everyone who is an adult carries the honor to provide for, protect, and educate any child or youth that his life touches upon. It becomes the person of great age, to MENTOR those who are coming along, in the ways of wisdom and high character. All human beings have the opportunity and the honor to make smooth the path
of any who may place their trust in them. By placing trust in an older person, the younger allows the older a path of growing and giving while the older receives love and faithfulness from the younger.
The HELPMATE relationship is between spouses. It is a mutual acceptance of each other, trust and bond with one another, compliment to the qualities of the other, and the intention and action of augmenting the growth, development and loving capacities of the mate. The investment is mutual though not necessarily alike. The reward for such a distinguished level of relationship is a quantum boost toward each one’s potential. To be in the position of helpmate is to confirm, comfort and help to complete each person’s life path and soul’s mission.
The ultimate level of relationship is that of the humble SUPPLICANT before Divine Spirit. Humility is acknowledgment of our placement in the firmament. This has nothing to do with the misconception that we, as human beings are less than, (nor are we greater than) but rather a completely integral part of the whole. Our place in the realms allows for the whole to function, our growth and development to take place and the cosmos of inter-relationships to come to fruition. Supplication has to do with having the gratefulness for and trust in the Higher Realms. In building a relationship with and understanding of something ‘more than’ what we can fathom with the finite mind, we can connect with a Realm that, we come from and return to, and which provides guidance and protection as we traverse this realm. The role of the supplicant affords us the opportunity to learn and practice the quality of gratefulness. Gratefulness embodies all other qualities within it… loyalty, honesty, trust and trustworthiness, humility and kindness to name but a few. It exemplifies the art of acknowledging Truth and being willing to follow a path of Love… while being thankful that we have this guidance to help us to stay on our life’s Mission.
Some people have difficulty with this level of relationship because of perceived losses
in life, lack of belief
(which is lack of trust), even pride and arrogance. People who find them selves struggling with anger, bitterness, frustration and fear at their circumstances, become so deeply connected
to their problems that, the problems become their complete focus.
They create a relationship with their hardships and are bound and ruled by them.
Often, it is very difficult to see that the problems of our lives are not outside our ‘self’ but stemming from within. It is a heroic task to recognize that there is great wisdom in seeking gratefulness for our situation. We want to rant and find commiseration from others for our perceived ‘losses’ in life. Taking a deep breath and quieting our mind can allow us to find our natural state of humility. Then we can give consideration to what it is that we are being given the opportunity to learn. We are free to supplicate (ask for clarity and assistance in all gratefulness), rather than to have the difficulty simply removed with no effort or understanding on our part. When we assume responsibility for our place in life… as a place we needed to be, even subconsciously chose to be, in order to learn, grow and develop our higher capacities, strengths and understandings, then we are half way to clearing the difficulty from our life. Most people, when devastation visits their doorstep, find some way to partake in this Divine relationship. When they let down all their arguments as to why their circumstances are unfair and unbidden, then and only then, may they find the answers they seek and restructure their life path to a renewed and more fulfilling level of conscious awareness. It is true that if there is distress at this level of relationship, as the supplicant seeking wisdom, confirmation and renewal, assuredly distress follows for all other levels of relationship.
The untrusting heart can neither trust his fellow man nor himself nor the natural progression of life.
The joy of this level of relationship is that, if we allow there to be a relationship, then we become increasingly more aware of being provided for (there is more than ‘enough’ to go around), protected (by justice and truth), aided (to stay on our Mission through all our growth and evolvement), educated (by experience), as well as, mentored and guarded (advised and watched over, known and loved
which is the Covenant from the Divine Realm). Confirmation of the soul, comfort within the duality of this existence, and completion through an understanding and all encompassing Divine Love, are revealed through this level of relationship. All the levels of relationship are represented in the relationship with the Divine.

THE FUNCTION OF THE BRAIN
How the Brain Receives, Decodes, Responds
The brain is a physical organ. It is the hard drive of the body, in charge of the intake of information, the formation of information storage, control of the nerve impulses, chemical signals and physical responses. The mind, intelligence, intellect and feelings are all instigated from and acted upon from this center.
All the informat ion that is transmitted to the brain from the inside of the body is carried by chemical reactions that drive nerve impulses. The information that comes from outside of the body is received through the senses of smell, taste, hearing, sight, and touch. These signal the biochemistry and impulses within the nervous system and are carried to the brain to be responded to. There are more subtle systems within the body, such as, the acupuncture meridians and chakra centers that are finely tuned to pick up on energy changes and messaging from the subtle
bodies of energy within and around the physical body and also from the oft termed extra
sensory capacities. As with the denser signals of the physical body and its sensory organs, the information coming in on the subtle channels is also processed, though only so that we may cognitively recognize the information, through the brain.
One of the most interesting facts about the organ of the brain is that it has so many levels of function. Each area of input is separate from the next, yet the data
is all being received, made sense of and responded to. Layers of input are coming in all the time. The pancreas may be sending bio-chemical signals calling for functional hormones to tell it the next proper response while the eye is sending a signal of sight that is engendering an emotion of perhaps love. At the same time the intuitive sensibilities are picking up on a subtle change in energy that signals an impending shift of emotion in a friend that creates a feeling of wariness. Suddenly, there is a memory flash from a kitchen smell and a motor reaction from the pinprick of a thorn. All of the signals and reactions are going on at such a rapid pace as to seem simultaneous and almost indistinguishable. These flashes of signals sent and received are simplistic compared to the vast possibilities for emotional, mental, intellectual and intuitive responses to all those signals.
The brain not only provides the circuitry to receive, decode and respond, but it must then store all outdated data. There is not a single piece
