About this ebook
Robert L. Kilmer
Bob Kilmer was born on August 25, 1934. He is the second of four children born to his mother and father, David W., Sr. and Violet Kilmer. Knowing she was due to deliver, his mother was forced to call the police for transportation to the hospital in Coatesville, PA, since her husband was working at the time. The name of the police officer who transported her to the hospital was named Robert Lee. Bob’s mother was so appreciative of the officer that she named the baby, Robert Lee Kilmer. The irony of all this is that Bob became a Chaplain to a local police department in Aston, PA. Bob found that he really enjoyed writing while going to school. He enjoyed poetry but never dreamed he would be able to write poetry. He began to see his talent for writing when he was in the Navy. During the early years of his 20 year Navy career, his shipmates would ask him to write letters and poetry to their “girls back home”. Later he began writing poetry, but never kept any of his poems. Later still, he became a follower of Jesus Christ. The tone of his poetry began to focus on Him. He found that as he went through trials in his life he would write about Christ and express his feelings to Him and God the Father. Although encouraged by many to publish his works, he would state, “I only write poetry for my own enjoyment, and sometimes for someone who is hurting”. Finally, in his seventies he decided to make his poetry available to whoever might have need of encouragement. After searching for publishers who might be able to help him he submitted his manuscript of poems for a book to be published. Bob is very grateful to his wife, Jackie, and his eight children (two marriages), Dave, Saundra, Stephen, Traci, June, David, Scot, and their now deceased son, Aaron, who left us much too soon. It is the prayer of the author that those who read these poems will do one or all of the following: a. Become a follower of Jesus Christ, if not one already; b. If hurting from the trials of life, allow God to heal them; c. If having walked away from Him, to allow Him to draw them back to Him.

A VALENTINE GIFT
On Valentine’s Day we think of candies, cards, flowers and hearts.
Everything is colored red with Cupid shooting love-darts.
We think of those whom we love, and who love us as well.
Love! A commitment that we cannot buy or sell.
When we get that special Valentine gift from our loved one
We can hardly wait to show and tell everyone.
We either wear it, display it, read it or enjoy its wonderful taste.
One thing’s for sure, we’re not going to let it go to waste.
Well, there is One Who exemplifies greater love than this Valentine.
He gives it freely with an eternal, no payment, no credit line.
This One is Jesus The Christ; the Messiah; the Savior of man.
This One is God the Son, Who perfectly fulfilled God’s redemption plan.
He did not offer candy, flowers or cards to satisfy our desires.
He offered the same Gift to all; whether we be murderers or liars.
His Gift is eternal; it can never end once it starts.
His Gift is a love that enters into men and changes their hearts.
Unlike Cupid, who gives only fantasies that can never be fulfilled,
Jesus gives us reality through His precious blood that was spilled.
That crimson, red flow was poured out willingly for all to receive.
His love is the same to everyone, whether they choose to doubt or believe.
He didn’t write a card to each of us. Instead, He wrote a marvelous Book.
A Book of love letters, available to anyone willing to take a look.
He tells us that we can come into His family through the new birth.
His message is written to everyone who trods this sin-filled earth.
This Book is called the Bible; God’s Word; pure and true.
It is written to tell of His eternal love for you.
Take the time to read it; your heart will be stirred.
You can share in the greatest love story this world has ever heard.
Go ahead! On this Valentine’s Day let Christ impact your heart.
Your life will take on new meaning. He’ll give you a new start.
Confess to Him all that ever you’ve done. He’ll forgive your every sin.
Ask Him to enter your life. Believe me, He’ll come right in.
He stands knocking right now at your heart’s door.
Won’t you settle it today? Let Him in; don’t shut Him out anymore.
He longs to comfort you; to fulfill you and make you complete.
He wants to set you at His table and give you His best to eat.
He was born to die because He loved you and me.
He died, was buried and arose three days later for all to see.
Now He sits at the right hand of the Father and prepares for us a place,
As He reaches out, extending His wonderful hand of grace.
One day He will come for His saints; we who have received Him.
Left behind will be all who have trusted in their own little whim.
The invitation has been given; it could be the very last one for you.
Please accept His Gift of eternal life and let all things become new.
BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU
The God of all creation is with you each and every day.
The Creator, Himself, Who shaped you from nought but clay.
None other is so kind, so loving, and so true.
Our God will forever be there because He cares for you.
There will be times when it will seem that all is lost;
When all about you will seem tempest-tossed.
But let not your hearts be troubled, sad or sorrowfully blue.
Turn all your thoughts to God, because He cares for you.
There will be days filled with the joys of life,
And there will be days filled with gloom and strife.
Many things will be strange and frighteningly new.
But, through it all, you can know peace, because He cares for you.
No matter what mysteries tomorrow might hold in store,
There will be nothing that will be too hard to endure.
Just keep Jesus Christ clearly in view,
And He will pour out blessings, because He cares for you.
Husband, you’ve taken on an awesome position of responsibility and trust.
Leading your wife Spiritually is a Scriptural must.
You must nourish her as the flower is nourished by morning dew;
And never forget your God, because He cares for you.
Wife, you must submit your life to your husband in every way,
Meeting his every need. Totally trust him to Christ every day.
Greet him each day with a love that is genuine and true.
And seek your heavenly Father daily, because He cares for you.
Present yourselves a living sacrifice unto the Lord.
Let all that you think, say and do, be with one accord.
May your victories be many, and your failures few.
Include God in all your plans, because He cares for you.
Finally, my dear loved ones, be strong in your belief.
When you feel burdened and weary, call on Jesus for relief.
Let nothing dissuade you from doing what God wants you to do.
Complete it cheerfully, in love, because He cares for you.
