About this ebook
Too many people are feeling lost and disillusioned. Cindy believes that, despite the hate and cruelty that surrounds her, beauty can be found if we look for it. In this collection of poems, she shares her belief that a smile or a bit of understanding can change the world. One act of kindness, one smile, brightens everything it touches.
Cindy J. Smith
I grew up in the country of Upstate New York and now reside in the boonies of Midwestern Indiana. I am a coffee-addicted truck driver (as if there was any other kind). I have written poetry all my life. The topics and poems just come into my head. I try to write in the first person for most of them. I do this as people are more apt to relate to something when they are not feeling like they are the target. Some of my poems are true, either for me or for someone I know. I believe in magic and that life is worth living. I hope that my words will touch every reader in some way. I want everyone to open their eyes and really see what is before them.

Hugs-Love and Great Karma - Cindy J. Smith
DEDICATION
THIS COLLECTION IS dedicated in loving memory of my sister in heaven, Rae Jo Booth. Her pixie size hid a big heart as well as a short fuse. Her love of daisies was lifelong and was a perfect representation of her... she was either happy or sad... there was no in-between. Heaven gained an angel and my heart a new hole.
A group of flowers Description automatically generated with low confidenceTHE DIFFERENCE
Are we not all the same
Red blood flows in our veins
Have eyes to see and ears to hear
Have hopes and dreams as well as fears
Yet we choose to seek the one odd thing
Of this difference, let our voices ring
Constantly shout about the evilness
Keeping the world a hate-filled mess
Not willing to even consider
Difference could in fact be better
I refuse to accept this point of view
I'll praise the difference in each of you
FIRST TIME
After you fall in love the first time
It will never seem as real
Perhaps your heart hesitates
Reluctant to share all it feels
For experience has shown it
How painful caring can be
When you find it flowed one way
Fantasy destroyed by reality
Somehow love does conquer
Most of our trepidation
And though it doesn't feel the same
It is stronger with a firm foundation
A WATERFALL OF FAITH
Life is such a hard road to travel
Potholes and pitfalls litter the way
Sadness and heartache fill the horizon
Hiding the laughter and love from view
My body trembles as I raise my foot
Another step into the abyss that is the future
My will is slowly fading as burdens increase
Family estranged, my health declining
What is the point of it all
Why do I still try so hard to live
Then I look up into the dark sky
The sun's rays peeking through the clouds
Showing me beauty I had forgotten
God's love shared with all
Washing away my woes and anger
In a waterfall of faith
FIND ME
Lying on my bed
I closed my eyes
Praying that tonight
I'd sleep peacefully
Hoping beyond hope
The haunting whispers
Would be silent forever
Never to return
No, luck was not my friend
Soft yet clear I heard
Always the same words
A mantra repeated nightly
Find me...Find Me... FIND ME
I have no clue what it means
Who is this me
I am to find
Don't they know to whom they speak
Can't they see that I am lost
I can't figure out myself
How could I possibly find some stranger
Why would I even try to
Find me...Find Me... FIND ME
Please, please voices
Tell me who I am to find
Where am I to look
If you will tell me where to start
I will search
If only to have you leave me alone
Find me...Find Me... FIND ME
Me, Me, ME...Who is ME????
"Listen to my voice
Open your ears and listen close
Find me...Find Me... FIND ME"
Finally, I listened
I knew that voice
It came from inside me
I looked deep into my soul
And I FOUND ME
A MEMORY
A wrinkle in time
That's what it is
Just a bump in the road
A blip in life's continuum
Hands of a clock sticking
Popping backwards a little
Pausing for a moment
Before moving forward
Reflecting what was
What could have been
Then it rushes onward
Ticking away the years
Striving, reaching out
Stretching towards the future
Until it pauses once again
Allowing the past to return
Become real again
Another memory relived
Heartache or happiness
Either way it is the past
Wrinkling the fabric of time
WHY DO I LOVE YOU
It is not because your face is nice
Nor the color or style of your hair
I doubt it is the sound of your voice
Maybe it is the way you seem to care
It's not due to the fact we exchanged some words
Nor is it the way your touch makes me feel
I know it’s because we've been together for years
I think that just proves my love is real
Why do I love you? I do not know
But it's a truth the whole world can see
By the look in my eyes, the smile on my face
When you are standing so close to me
