About this ebook

The poems are about my life or the life of someone close to me and I have tried to be positive and up beat in that even though a tragedy sometime occurs, you can come out the other side a stronger, better person if you just hang on. As the old clique says “when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade”. Of course, the outcome depends on

    PREFACE

As I am editing my collection of poetry, I began to ask myself why I am sharing these with the world at this point of my life. The stories contained in these pieces are so close and dear to my own heart. I am revealing a part of my inner self, which few, perhaps no one, have ever seen.

First and foremost, with my reflection, I realized I wanted to leave something for posterity. Hopefully, one or more of my messages will bring hop and/or inspiration to someone reading them or, at the very least, reiterate that all of us have struggles. It’s not whether you win or lose the game but that you played at all.

I’ve written the majority of these poems after retirement last year, but a few were written as far back as thirty years before for one reason or another. One poem included here was written when I was nine years old. I came across it when a former Sunday school teacher gave it to me and said she’d been carrying it in her Bible for fifty years. There it was in my own early handwriting, and I decided if it was such a blessing to her, I needed to include it herein.

I’ve been asked how it is I came to write the poems I’ve penned, and the answer is, something or someone inspired me to tell a story in rhyme. Some of them were composed in the night when I was supposed to be asleep and woke with some lines on my mind. Others have come to me when I was doing something else and I just had to write them down. I’ve never composed with anyone else. Some works came quite easily while others I had to actually struggle with to complete.

I don’t consider my life any more difficult than anyone else’s, but it has not been without pain and trials. My faith has been my mainstay, and I am so very thankful for all the people I’ve known along the way. My husband is a quiet, gentle, loving man, faithful and strong. He is the eye of my storms in many ways. Our amazing little son, though he was only on this earth a short seven years, taught us both so much about love, faith, and courage. Often when I start to feel discouraged or think I can’t get through something, I have just to recall the examples he showed us.

I’ve divided my writing into two areas. One is for poems written for another, or about other people whose paths have crossed mine, and are in random order. The other section is mostly about family and love. I’ve been blessed to know the love of family and many friends and two amazing guys; one is my husband of over forty years and the other is our little son. For the most part, poems about them are the first ones in this section, followed by tributes to both my parents, who are now gone.

I hope you can glean something from the baring of my soul in these poems. I can’t
