How to Do Handmade Soaps - María José Lozano
Introduction
We live in a saturated world, full of synthetic ingredients that are harshly criticized for their adverse effects, and that cause a growing interest in natural options, such as plants, herbs, spices and fruits that provide benefits for the skin.
Currently the options that we find in the market are every day better and with a high quality, because they are not using ingredients of animal origin and they have a careful production process to avoid contamination.
In the range of cosmetic products with natural ingredients we already find salts, milks, soaps, scrubs, bath bombs, and all this done with the hands, without anything industrial, the characteristic they have is that they do not generate foam, but have a texture creamy that cleanses, hydrates and prevents aggressions typical of other types of products.
They are used to relax, to stimulate, for pregnancy and postpartum, headaches, affliction, muscle aches and to take care of your face, hands and feet.
In this book we will discuss natural soaps, which as we well know are made with complete glycerin that is beneficial for sensitive and dry skin, is used in treatments against eczema, as it reduces itching of the skin and is used to treat skin diseases.
With these soaps we obtain more natural and non-artificial fragrances with chemical products typical of industrial soaps.
It is possible that that soap that you make at home you do with ingredients and oils that adapt to the type of skin you have, which is excellent for you to avoid diseases. With these essential oils you will enjoy the multiple properties of each one.
These handmade soaps do not have petroleum derivatives, so you will not be polluting the environment either.
In this book you will learn how to make handmade soaps like the best professionals.
Chapter 1: Difference between artisan soaps and industrial soaps
Every day we use products that are related to wellness, beauty and other health effects, which sometimes may not be as beneficial as we think. The cosmetics we use on a daily basis can be harmful to the body: shampoo, makeup, soaps, creams, hair products, manicures ... All these products for daily use can even be harmful. Not to mention that they are tested on animals, causing them great suffering.
This is due to the ingredients they have, which are chemicals that can even cause cancer, related to diseases such as diabetes or asthma. An example of this is parabens that are used as preservatives or phenol-phenyl, aluminum and colorants, to name just a few.
In natural cosmetics, safe products are made, with natural bases such as glycerin, or natural extracts and oils. For this reason, these types of products are part of the local economy and are made on a small scale, among them are those that we discuss in this book, handmade soaps, as well as shampoos, essential oils and more. If you put in effort you can learn to make these soaps that will be very useful and the feeling they will leave you is better than the ones you can buy in the supermarket.
Industrial products are largely derived from oil, clogging the pores of the skin and creating a false sensation of moisture, which then ends up generating the opposite, dryness. This is an effect that does not occur with artisan soaps.
In addition, artisan soaps are often part of family or community initiatives, when you buy this kind of soaps you are helping an entrepreneur, although sometimes the price is higher, this is mainly due to the quality of the inputs, artisan soaps have organic and natural raw materials, more expensive than industrial chemicals.
Skin types
Each type of skin generates different needs, we are going to see some key aspects about the care of each type of skin so that you can make the most suitable soap for yours.
Oily skin:
The main problems caused by excess oil are acne, blackheads, excessive shine and discomfort such as irritation and redness in the driest areas.
The advice for this skin is to wash twice a day, in the morning and at night, to use products without oily or alkaline gels, and that they have elements that serve to combat the bacterial origin of excessive fat.
It is key not to forget to keep your skin moist, because as with all skin types, you can suffer from dehydration and dryness.
The diet must be with a diet rich in vegetables, fibers and it is also key to regulate fat. Do not eat fried foods and saturated fat and try to eat foods high in vitamin B12 and Omega 3 fatty acids.
The soaps recommended for this type of skin are coconut, almond, oatmeal or activated charcoal.

Mixed skins:
Combination skin is the one that has a part that generates a lot of fat, especially in the T zone (forehead, nose and chin), and in the rest it is the opposite, it tends to be
