Mamma has always had a love for other people’s possessions. I’ve known this my whole life, so I hovered over her like a hawk eyeing a prairie dog.
Oh, Mother Lange,
I exclaimed. What a wonderful piece of Lladro.
I deftly removed my mother-in-law’s prized porcelain statuette from Mamma’s greedy fingers, and placed the little figurine back on the mantle. Taking a firm grasp of Mamma’s elbow, I guided her to the center of Mother Lange’s sofa. The most appropriate seat I could find for a kleptomaniac: nothing in arm’s reach save a throw pillow.
I’m so glad you like it, dear,
said Roger’s mother. I smiled up into her elegant face without relaxing my grip on my own mother’s arm.
