River and Rain
Foreword by Daniel Aaron
Off he goes again,
The precious boy
With the tousled dark hair
And sparkling eyes that light every room,
Flecks of green, brown, and gray,
Off to his special place
Down the hill to the old oak tree,
A box of crayons in one hand,
Blank pages in the other,
To write, draw, create
A world of his own.
As happens in life
Leaves change colors,
Seasons change.
Off he goes again,
This precious boy,
His dark hair now styled
And eyes that sparkle from tears held back,
Flecks of green, brown, and gray,
Off to a different place
With concrete angels, epitaphs, and roses.
He traded blank pages and crayons
For a green spiral notebook and number two pencil.
To write, cry, and release
In a world of his own.
As happens
