About this ebook

Life is full of challenges, some of the difficult ones you have to look for the humor to continue the pace. Dealing with dementia in the elderly isn't a story everyone will run out and buy, but a story about how a cat helped an elderly parent deal with loneliness and sadness is memorable. Mama Cat's love and dependency on Grandma made the difference and something to live for.

    Preface

Thanks to my dear husband for his loving support in helping me edit this book and making this a reality.  Thanks to my sister Carol, who encouraged me to write down the activities of Mom when she moved to New Mexico with me.  At first some of the journal seemed to be a collection of distressful and difficult situations, but as I continued to set my mind to see the good in the situations I was able to collect these glimpses of life during the three years.  Although she didn't live with us the entire time this is where the story began to take shape. The stories are true, but the collection of events span 3 years.  I wanted to share were the good memories, the funny stories that preserves the dignity of Mom's memory.

We had lots of terrific family times throughout the years. There were so many more events to write about, the later years of life are the difficult ones. It's the hardest thing in life to let go when their life comes to a conclusion. These stories will carry me through and be the cherished memories I keep.

I want to thank all of our family, friends and cousins that were there for Mom and Dad during all the ups and downs of their lives. You made their everyday worthwhile and so special.

I wrote this from a child's perspective in order to keep it simple and lively. I also wanted the story for my children and grandchildren to read and appreciate the elderly and their challenges. I will be there soon. Cheyenne seemed to be the most plausible character since she is the youngest and was there every day. Whereas, Kristy and Keith visited Grandma and Grandpa several times a year during their teen years., but during the time of the story Keith was in the Air Force in Saudi and Kristy was going to college and working as a designer in Denver.

    Chapter 1
