This book is dedicated to
The Lord Jesus Christ for saving me, changing me and using me for His glory. All honor and glory to God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit. Truly He is the Potter and I am the clay.
My family and friends who supported me through this journey,
especially Mark for all of his love and support. Thank you!
All of the women I came to know and love at CIW
All those reading this book. May the Lord touch you and minister to you.
I hope all who read this will look up each Scripture reference and read God’s Word for themselves. For the Lord taught me there’s no better teacher than the Holy Spirit and God’s written Word. Rely not on your own understanding, or mine. Let God’s Word minister truth to your soul.
PREFACE
T he word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord saying:
Arise and go down to the potter’s house and there I will cause you to hear My words. Then I went down to the potter’s house and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came to me saying,
O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the Lord.
Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:1-6
What the Holy Spirit showed me was that I was always in God’s hands and even when I was marred, messed up, rebelled, scarred, barred, fell apart, sinned and gave up, it was all done while I was in His hands. Even when I turned my back on Him, He never left me. He held me always. He then put me back on the wheel and made me again into another vessel that seemed good to Him.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Satan loves to use this verse to cause us doubt when he reminds us of our past. So often we believe the lie rather than the truth of God’s Word. The lie is that we’ll never change; the lie is that our sin was too great; the lie is that God can’t forget how bad we were; The lie is that nothing becomes new and that the old will always remain in us. The lie is that God will do it for others, but not me.
I fell into that trap. I was such a mess. I seemed to fail at everything I tried to do, except get high. I was on drugs starting at age 12, pregnant at 14, dropped out of school by the 10th grade; involved in criminal activity during my teenage years (causing me to be incarcerated for nearly 24 years straight leaving my parents to raise my only daughter), not to mention many other sinful things I engaged in. I really was a mess; a disappointment; a loser. (I was arrested July 27, 1988 and released December 9, 2011). Nearly 24 years in prison, but I was being molded and reshaped (changed into a new vessel) in the Potter’s Hands. I don’t want to get into detail of my crimes because that gives Satan some sort of twisted glory. Believe me, my crimes were as bad as they get. But what God did in my life is even better and that’s what I want to testify of and bring Him glory for!
I was raised a Christian and I believed in Jesus Christ. I knew the Scripture truth that I was made new. But I believed the lie that I could never change or be changed. I had head knowledge of God’s Word but not heart-understanding. I played religious when it seemed good for me. But I had no relationship with Jesus.
When I was a child I loved the Lord more than anything or anyone and I looked for Jesus in everyone and everywhere I went. But it wasn’t until I was incarcerated that I had a personal encounter with Him.
I want to say the Lord stepped in and molded me to the woman I am today, but the truth is I was always in His hands being shaped and molded; especially when I was marred. He has made me a new creation through His sacrifice on the cross, my belief in Him and my being in Him. But it is the shaping process that has taken some time and won’t be completed until His return and I see Him face to face. Though I haven’t arrived at perfection yet, I can attest to His changing me into a new creation.
I want to elaborate that I read and studied a lot. I read the Bible and searched the Scriptures for God’s meaning and truth. I don’t believe I could’ve changed on my own; I needed help. I had/have to learn how to walk and live as a new woman. It’s not an accomplished task, it’s a life changing daily walk. I hope you take the time to look up each Scripture mentioned. Don’t rely on peoples’ testimonies alone. But listen to the power of God in them that can attest to the truth He personally revealed to each individual to bring Him Glory. He wants to reveal Himself to you too! Ask for His wisdom and read the Scripture with the Holy
