The Poverty Programmed
Introduction
Deconstructing the monstrosity of poverty has always been a grail to me. What is poverty, or being poor? For many years, I have tirelessly sought to raffle the puzzle of what debt is and how to escape from it, but in simple terms, poverty is being short of economic, political or social factors. Poverty is a vicious cycle that rotates around a myriad of things, and if not intervened upon, the cycle perpetuates to generations as will show with my own experiences. In economics, poverty is a condition in which an individual or a community becomes short of financial resources and essentials to enjoy minimum standards of living and the well- being that is considered adequate or acceptable in society.
Dissecting and having an in-depth to what poverty entails, require a broad approach in its entirety. Why are people poor? Are people born poor and cannot escape poverty in their life? Are the poor to be blamed for their poverty or is it our schools that turn us into robotic working individuals or the church in facilitating wrong teachings on the perception of the love for money? Can we blame our parents whose total pressure on us to work hard in school, to get better grades (paperwork) and secure lucrative paying jobs, leads us to join high social status classes to which we do not fit? As I mentioned earlier, understanding the whole issue of poverty is laborious and quite expansive approach, from individual to government level eliminating poverty have proven a task to handle.
Why are people poor
Whose fault is it that people are poor? Having been brought up in a poor background, I have found out that people become and live poor in their life because of many factors. 1) Let’s start with people inability to save resources. Yes, I am poor because my family wasn’t able to save for us. The little that dad would get usually ended in the house. It was hand to mouth, meaning we weren’t able to develop and get out of the poverty. We remained constrained to it. Saving resources doesn’t happen overnight; it is a process that one must be disciplined, over and over again, to allocate a certain percentage of their funds to capacity builds themselves and free poverty. Another reason people fail to save resources is they like upgrading their lifestyles. Improving lifestyle leads to impulse buying which continually cuts off one's income. Impulse buying is one of most dangerous habits that a consumer can get into, buying without regard to the expenses to incur merely telling one that there is more money left over. I don’t mean we were extravagant and could afford that life, but I have realized people will always like to live beyond their means, which makes them more miserable each day.
2)The spirit of procrastination is another elephant in the room .The ‘not now, but tomorrow’ mentality is the second reason why people find themselves unable to get out of poverty. Procrastinators keep saying tomorrow life will be better than today, whereas they are not investing in the tomorrow today. I am poor because our father did not secure our tomorrow, he kept telling us things would change until we found ourselves as poor as when we were young. I too was affected by the same problem of procrastinating until when I disciplined myself to invest in tomorrow.
3) Furthermore, there is a group of people who think setting aside resources is lame and is not their business to save for the
