About this ebook
In the year 2449 Dr. Aurenne Bahn is about to become an historic superstar when her research culminates in reviving a person dead for 300 years. But in her day every experiment must be approved by some committee, in her case that of Cultural Antiquities. Agent Anton Epps is the key reviewer and, because he has his own plans for world power, he confiscates Aurenne's project for his own uses. There is no way to avoid this disaster until James, an odd old man, finds his way into her lab and offers his place in which to set up. With the help of her assistants she disappears with the lab and goes underground in James' secret hideout. There he reveals his identity as the last surviving descendant of Hedge Daunican, a poet and leader of a revolution cut short by his assassination in 2050. Aurenne is stunned by the revelation as Daunican was her favorite poet in younger years, and further that James keeps his mummified corpse hidden there. James has lured her into his hideout in hopes she will continue his work as caretaker of Daunican's original manuscripts and his corpse. Aurenne's first experiment is the successful retrieval from the corpse of the kinetic energy to reconstruct actual words spoken by Daunican. But the words are in a language he invented. James is startled by Daunican's words and translates them as the sign the poet left to resurrect him from the dead. Aurenne approaches the greatest challenge of her life to be the recipient of Daunican's recomposed energy. But before she commences the experiment Epps and his assistant discover and take over the hideout as the new base for his own revolution. He insists that he receive the energy of the historic figure which he presumes will make him unstoppable in his campaign. Will Aurenne succeed in resurrecting the ancient poet? What will Epps do as the reincarnated Daunican? Adapted from Mark Turner's stage play, this reads as if it is happening right in your presence. A guide is provided for group discussion.

Doctor Aurenne Bahn is rushing toward the massive glass structure which is her laboratory complex in the year 2449. A group of people mill around the front door - reporters out to get the morning scoop. They see and rush to meet her. She does not pause as they vie with one another to get her attention by holding their hand in front of her without speaking. She hears their voices in her inner ear.
"Dr. Bahn, Rudyard Info."
"Dr. Bahn, Beta Detail."
"Dr. Bahn, Dr. Bahn, this way please. Jan Ord, Global Word."
"Dr. Bahn, Evie Naano, Range Truth."
Aurenne dodges and pushes through the group making for the door but one reporter whom everyone knows waits there. She slows her pace and nods to him as he steps forward calmly with raised hand.
Dr. Bahn, Devon Beringer, Science AM, we’re live on RSN.
Good morning, Devon,
she returns brightly using her audible. The other reporters crowd around.
We have to scramble early to catch a word from you, Doctor,
Beringer obliges with his own audible voice.
Yes. Always in the lab early.
We’re all hoping to hear more from you on the wonderful break through,
he gets right to it.
I know everyone’s crazy excited by the latest findings.
You’ve advanced humanity’s reach into the past.
It has been a historic few months,
she fills while searching for ways to sidestep his inevitable questions.
How do you propose to apply these revolutionary techniques?
he probes.
As you know, we do not discuss our findings publicly. That is completely a matter of government communications.
She turns to the door, but Beringer steps in front of her.
The people are waiting to hear details about their star researcher’s great discovery.
Aurenne’s personal discipline deflects his fawning. I can only say we’re opening a way to retrieve primary sources from history in a way thought impossible only twenty years ago.
What was it, something about reviving ancient dead people?
She would enjoy popping him on the nose. But no. Muddle him with technical theory. No, it’s actually about how energy transforms.
Oh, I see. And the Cultural Antiquities is actually putting your project under review. Is that at all disconcerting?
She smiles and almost makes a fist. The Committee works closely with us.
But they’ve scheduled an important meeting with you today. Nervous?
She winks at him thinking Oh wouldn’t he love to rattle me.
She only says, It’s routine.
Have you discovered something that might make them nervous?
I have no more comments,
she chuckles and presses the door.
Well, thank you for the revelations this morning, Doctor,
calls Beringer.
Very welcome,
she sends over her shoulder as the door excludes him.
The lobby is quiet and cool. Aurenne turns to Beth the receptionist already at her side. Where the hell is security?! Can’t I get to the lab without a herd of animals accosting me?!
I apologize, Doctor,
hastens Beth.
Where’s Tessia?
barks Aurenne. Get those people off this property now!
Beth taps her temple. Security. Doctor Bahn wants the front door cleared.
Aurenne storms into the elevator. Where’s Tessia?
The elevator door covers her, and she breathes to calm herself. The door
