Dedications
This book and everything it represents is dedicated to my Higher Power that led me to my own truth and to my inner circle of love and support. I also dedicate this to everyone who has played a vital role in my healing and in my personal, emotional, and spiritual growth.
To my girls, you are my why and the reason I am who I am today. You taught me how to love the parts of myself I could not look at and the true meaning of unconditional love as a mother. I am a better woman because of your unwavering support. Troy, thank you for helping me launch from a very dark place and for supporting my path from behind the scenes as we found our way through life as loving parents.
To my dad, and my brothers, I thank you for supporting me emotionally and financially when times were really tough for the girls and me. You told me you were proud of me and that I must never give up. The early-morning and late-night therapy sessions were invaluable to my success today. I am grateful that you never let me give up on my dream of writing this book.
To my dearest soul sisters, you’ve helped me in ways that I cannot fully express in words. The loving support you’ve provided for me when I was fragile helped me build bridges to the never-ending realm of What else is possible.
This helped create the space for unlimited potential to rise within my soul and stream from places in my heart that I never knew existed.
Toni Jones, without your guidance, wisdom, and grace for all my broken parts that you identified with, I would not be the woman, mother, and human I am today. Answering questions that you asked me created an opening to a healing place where few have the courage to go. For an eternity we shall dance.
Thank you!
Introduction: Hello to All My New Friends!
Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.
~John Wooden
This book was created to be a loaded source of help for any teen or twenty-something who is searching for knowledge based on real lived experience with abuse, abandonment, addiction, and family drama and trauma. There is no specific level of suffering that is required for you to receive the benefits from the guidance, information, knowledge, and resources that are contained within this trauma toolbox for spiritual well-being. I believe that we, the children of alcoholics and all types of abuse, have already paid the price for the immoralities of those who hurt us.
This book was created with you in mind and the souls that need it the most. I was one of them, and I am now able to share my experience, strength, and hope with you while you may be working through your own painful or traumatic life experiences. I am not a recovery coach or counselor, nor do I claim to be. What I am is a woman who suffered greatly from complex post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, debilitating addictions, crippling depression, isolation, loneliness, constant negativity around me, and the many complex issues that a child, teenager, and young adult with untreated trauma may experience. I am M.E., which translates to a Master of My Experience. I have overcome the soul-shattering darkness and emerged in the light of awareness through the grace of recovery.
Think of this book as delicious homemade chocolate chip cookie or treat of your choice. It is created with love and compassion. It has delicious ingredients to satisfy your cravings for connection and meaningful relationships, and it is packed with mini morsels of helpful goodness. When all of the ingredients are combined, it creates an explosion of well-being while sending happy signals throughout your body. If you don’t connect with the food analogy, then substitute it with anything that brings your mind, body, and soul comfort. It could be a walk, a meaningful talk with friends, or spending time doing an activity you love. My point is that we all need something to add to our lives when we are feeling empty, restless, irritable, and discontent. It is then that we need to reach out for help and learn how to use tools that would help us the most when we are fragile, hurt, sad, hungry, angry, lonely, tired, and on the verge of giving up.
The Three Parts of This Book
There are three parts to this book. The first part is my story. I share with you my experience, strength, and hope on the other side of my most painful life experiences and disappointments. I share what led me to rock bottom and what it took to get me to where I am now. I do not regret one day of my life. Would I wish it to be less painful, more secure, and less hectic, yes, but in the end I am grateful that I ended up where I did so that I can write this book for the modern-day teenager that needs to know what I did not know until I was in my dark night of the soul. Now, I am in the light, and I have found a solution to my soul sickness. This book has been building
