    The Hostage - Elizabeth Bell

    Chapter 2

Shawn spoke just loud enough to be heard by the captives. If either one of you makes a lot of noise, I’m gonna pull over and cut your tongue out and then bind you and gag you. It’s going to be uncomfortable back there for you both, so don’t make it harder than it has to be because it don’t matter to us all that much if we have to kill you.

Vickie’s soft, shuddering, breathy voice drifted up to them. The pleas to, not hurt her, please, oh, please, don’t hurt her'. He and Tonya grinned at each. Then her voice died away to quiet sobs.

Shawn heard the man say something that amazingly enough sounded like, Sure thing, boss.

The fag didn’t sound frightened at all but amused. Shawn dismissed it. The fag wouldn’t find it so funny when they were in the cabin. A few hits with the butt-end of a rifle would make him properly cowed.

He turned on the radio to a rock and roll station, and rolled the windows down, so they could enjoy the air. He wasn’t worried about either of them popping a light off or some stupid shit like that. Shawn and Tonya’s brother, Marty, had cemented anything that could be popped out or removed, and for added protection, they soundproofed the trunk. So while he could hear the hostages in the car, it would be damn near impossible for them to be heard outside.

They went about the day as normally as possible, stopping at a 7-11 to get gas and drinks. Tonya added ice to a cooler full of beer and pop while Shawn filled the car up with gas. It amused him that he was putting gas in a car in a busy convenience store, and he had a man and a woman trapped in the trunk, and no one was the wiser. He had left the radio blasting, just in case some noise did come out of the back, but the hostages were quiet.

Luckily, the day was cool, or heat might have been a concern. Not that he gave a shit if Vickie cooked, but he had hopes of at least getting a hundred or more from his hostage.

Shawn wondered if the fag had a gun in his briefcase. He shook his head. If the guy had a gun, surely, he would have been firing it already, trying to get attention. Still, he would have Marty take the big shotgun at the cabin, so when they got the hostages out, he’d be able to disarm the guy if there was indeed a gun in his possession.

He smirked knowing they would have ample warning if the guy had a gun or a knife or even a cell phone. Vickie had a set of pipes on her like a scream queen.

It was a long drive out to the secluded cabin they had found last year. It had been overgrown and in a sad state of neglect. They had cleaned it, fixed the roof and door, and chased away or killed the very few squatters that tried to come around. It was their hangout now, and they had made sure it was unknown.

Tonya had done a title search and hadn’t even found anything on it through that. It was in an area of woods that wasn’t known for hunting due to too much underbrush and vines that wrapped around the trees, slowly strangling them to death, while providing a thick cover. Plus, there were marshy areas that could bog down cars, and rumors of quicksand, though Shawn thought that was a lot of shit.

Just before he left the city, he pulled through a Burger King and placed a large order for them. While they were handed the bags, the news came on about a bank robbery. Three people had died, six were injured, and two had been taken hostage. Tonya laughed, and Shawn grinned back at her.

It was funny really, here he was getting quarter ponders with cheese after he had just robbed a bank, and he had the two hostages in question in his trunk. He winked at Tonya, who laughed again as she took the
