Secret Home Business Ideas - Marc Hayes

    Conclusion

Chapter 1: Do You Want To Sell On eBay?

eBay has been a platform for sellers since the mid-nineties where its creator Pierre Omidyar created the site over a weekend. Not long after, he sold the first product ever on eBay which was a broken laser pointer for $14, it would soon explode with popularity. eBay would allow him to quit his job and work on his website full time. It’s this kind of opportunity that eBay has created for people and could create for you too if you venture forward in this book and follow the advice that’s written in the forthcoming chapters.

After all, maybe you’d like to be Pierre Omidyar as well. It’s quite possible you wish to change jobs, or you’re looking for some extra money to pay your bills and groceries. eBay is a site where you can buy anything from t-shirts to coffee mugs to t-shirts with coffee mugs on them. That’s not a great idea, but you could do it. I won’t judge you.

When Omidyar started, he had to create his site from scratch just to sell a stinkin’ broken laser pointer. Luckily all the hard work’s done for you. You don’t have to learn how to program, you just set up your account, list your product, take a few pictures, and let the money roll in.

There’s a few other details like customer reviews and shipping your product, but we’ll get to that. The important thing to remember is: you have nothing to lose, except the time you waste watching cat videos on Facebook and not starting your new marketplace on eBay and chasing your dream of becoming a billionaire like Omidyar!

    Let’s get started!

    Chapter 2: Starting On eBay

The first thing you need to do before we create an account is you need to figure out what you want to sell. Sure, we all have some a pile of old toys and whatever that thing is that our grandmother bought us back in ‘97, but if you want to increase your chance of being successful on the online marketplace that we call eBay, it’s better to specialize.

What’s your passion? Do you love iPhone cases? Or old Christmas sweaters? Figure out what your passion is and sell it, unless your passion is old wet socks, then maybe stick to Craigslist. The important thing is to fill a niche, not a giant gaping hole that anybody could fill. Someone selling old vintage horror movie posters is more likely to become successful than someone whose eBay store looks like a lazy Sunday yard sale with dog-chewed remote controllers and mismatched shoes. Focus your store, focus your online brand, and you’ll go far.

And you’ll want to make sure you’re well supplied. It’s all well and good if you’re selling dinner plates with Elvis’s face on them, but once you’re down to zero, will you have any more? Think about how you can keep your storefront stocked and ready to ship out to customers. Many sellers buy in bulk from warehouses and then turn it around to sell it on eBay. Just make sure to keep an eye on the list of prohibited things, you’d be surprised to find what’s on eBay’s naughty list like no food, no batteries, and no surveillance equipment. Well there goes my Saturday night. Anyways, keep your options open, always be eager to learn new things, and never be stagnant.

Once you figure out what you want to sell, then you might want to think about registering your online eBay business because if you find yourself raking in the cash, then you’ll need to pay taxes on the items you’re selling. The internet might still be the wild wild west,
