OUTDOOR MINI-KITCHEN ISLAND
Children love to splash and play with water, so a mini-kitchen island where they’re free to let their imagination run wild is perfect for the garden. This island features a concrete work surface that’s water-repellent. A plastic tub is repurposed here as sink. See the plan with measurements on p. 101.

B. Attach the short pieces with screws to make a box.
C. The back is anchored by attaching screws on the upper board at the back of the box. You can add a small shelf with brackets onto the back too; it’s always nice to have a shelf above the sink for clean dishes and other miscellaneous items.
D. Screw on the planks for the bottom shelf.
E. Now it’s time to make the mold for casting the concrete work surface. I like to use shuttering plywood for my mold. Saw pieces to make a small, shallow box. I used the same kind of tub that will be used later to make the tub hole in the concrete, and cut off its upper rim. The tub is secured by weighing it down with a few stones and a simple cross inside the mold—the tub must not move when the concrete is poured into the
