DEDICATION AND
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
To Prof. Dr. Gyorgy Paragh (exemplary teacher of medicine and public policy); Emeritus Prof. Dr. Sandor Damjanovich (academician, biophysicist-whose instructive teachings helped bring a critical comparative biophysical dimension to the subject matter), Prof. Laszlo Kovacs (for his exuberant instructive dedication to scientific and physiologic research ); Prof. Dr. Olah Eva (exemplary pediatrician and researcher—for pedagogically and eruditely driving home the message that everything begins in childhood); Prof. Gyorgy Szekely (academician, stern but fair neuroanatomist and comparative neurobiologist for freely sharing a wealth of critical real time insights and shining the initial light on my journey through neuroscience ); Prof Istvan Furka (socially conscious research surgeon first class, humanist extraordinaire-for his cogent and incisive analyses) and finally to Gbeymah from Siahn for her golden eyes in the sky and ears on the ground-without whom this task would have been even more difficult, if not impossible.
FOREWORD
In the course of our daily activities, it is often the case that there are several social and/or behavioral patterns that do not fit in the realm of what is then known at that moment in time. After many repeat episodes of the seemingly disjointed, difficult to explain experiences, the open mind, the scientific mind, the artistic mind is forced to take note, size up the new phenomenon, interpret it and attempt to make a sense of it. In this process, for those who are persistent enough, several patterns begin to emerge and which eventually can be woven together to make a beautiful tapestry of observations, words and/or artworks. The culmination price is usually experiencing the thrill of being able to universally explain the new characters and features of the observed events and phenomena.
The interface of behavior and strategic economic decision making (or any strategic decision making for that matter) is one such phenomenon. The more one looks at this phenomenon the more that meets the eyes that was not previously clear. At times, decades and decades of observations have to await the availability of the new scientific investigative tools in order for more cogent explanations to be offered.
The subject matter at hand in this book is, in my opinion, an interesting one. The behavioral patterns are old but looking at these permutations in a new light, will hopefully help make future predictions about human interactions in the realm of economic and strategic decision making more feasible.
Travels to different communities, cultures and countries as well as the exposure to different cultures and societal strata have added much needed flavor to this discourse.
Many thanks to my many teachers, young and old, encountered along my very tortuous academic journey, whose tutelage and corrections have made this endeavour a very worthwhile one. It remains my ardent desire to demonstrate this succinctly.
