Chapter One
Walking in Divine Healing & Health
My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 for THEY ARE LIFE TO THOSE WHO FIND THEM, AND HEALTH [CURE, MEDICINE] TO ALL THEIR FLESH.
—Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, HEALING AND HEALTH TO ALL THEIR FLESH.
—Proverbs 4:20-22 AMPC
The contents of this book and the Divine Healing & Health for Today class teachings contain potent medication—the God-kind of life, filled with inoculating power to heal any kind of sickness and disease for those who believe. However, in order for this divine life or medicine to work for the believer, the teachings of God’s Word must be attended to, deposited in the heart and spoken out of the mouth with faith-filled words and corresponding actions (2 Cor. 4:13, I believed and therefore I spoke,
; James 2:17, "Faith without works [corresponding actions] is dead").
The keynote Scripture in Proverbs 4:20-23 says giving our attention and utmost focus on God’s Word of healing and health will help us to gain an understanding of all that we need for bodily strength, healing and wholeness. Effectively, faith’s understanding only rises when we look at God’s Word from every angle. Only then can we have a vibrant faith that will move the life (anointing, grace, power) of God through any obstacle that interferes with our passage!
In the chapters of this book, we will see that every Christian has an all-inclusive salvation-redemption through Christ, which gives them authority to access this inward grace or divine life that brings all the blessings of God. However, accessing the redemptive promises is only possible when the believer mixes a heart faith with the knowledge of God’s Word; therefore, they create a reaction that propels God’s inward grace to produce forgiveness, healing, health, prosperity or overall freedom in every area of the believer’s life here on this earth.
In particular, this impactful teaching—based on the inspired Word of God—will help the reader to gain a valuable comprehension of divine healing as well as divine health. They will learn how to turn their faith loose and walk in healing which denotes a process of mending, cure or restoration
of any part or parts of the physical body in need. And, they will learn how to walk in divine health which means a cure, remedy, medicine, deliverance, wholeness, soundness
for the body as a whole (see chapter 3, Divine Healing or Divine Health?
).
We read in Job 22:21-22:
Now acquaint yourself [steward, show harmony] with Him, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you. 22 Receive, please, instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.
Coming into agreement with God and using faith in God and His Word (healing Scriptures) will release God’s healing power (anointing, grace, life) from within the heart; therefore, divine life is propelled throughout the body to any area of need. (Prov. 4:23b, "For out of it [the heart] springs the issues of life.")
It is imperative that the believer first attend to the Scriptures that bring knowledge of the specific promises of God provided through their redemption in Christ; as a result, the eyes of their heart will see the truth that sets them free. When the Christian gains a revelation knowledge of what Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection has provided, then they will more readily lay down wrong mentalities, believe for themselves and apply the redemptive Word which brings wholeness to every area of their lives—spirit, soul and body.
Paul said in Colossians 2:1-3:
For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and ATTAINING TO ALL RICHES OF FULL ASSURANCE OF UNDERSTANDING, TO THE KNOWLEDGE of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
When Paul referred to a "full assurance of understanding," he was talking about attaining to a confident trust in God, through His Word—an assurance that comes by gaining light, revelation, or we could say faith’s understanding of the knowledge of God’s Word. A full assurance of faith that is acted upon will move us on to experiencing God’s inward life and gaining a godly wisdom, which only comes as we use our faith in the knowledge of the Scriptures we are standing on (see chapter 9, Faith’s Progression: Growing in Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom
).
Keeping God’s Covenant of Healing and Health
Paid for by Christ’s stripes on the cross, the born-again believer has a new and better covenant of health and healing. Through Christ’s sacrifice, believers are able to take hold of the grace of God through faith (Eph. 2:4-8); they come in the precious name of Jesus and receive what Christ already bore on Calvary’s tree.
Hebrews 8:6 says,
But now He [Christ] has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
Our covenant of redemption is far better because it is based on the fulfillment of God’s promise to restore the divine life back to His man in Christ. However, healing and complete health has been part of the covenant for God’s man from the beginning. From Genesis and throughout the Old Testament Law, those who were obedient and put their trust in God and His Word were protected, kept, healed and prospered by the power of Jehovah.
In the book of Genesis, God proved Himself to Abraham as Jehovah Rapha—the Great Physician! He prepared the way and kept Abraham and Sarah through their journeys as they obeyed Him. And, when Sarah could not conceive a child, God kept His promise to bring them an heir. Sarah was made whole in order to fulfill God’s promise that she would become a mother of nations, and Abraham would produce seed and become the father of many nations (Gen.17:5,15-16).
When God instituted the Old Testament Law through His prophet Moses, He commanded the people to be obedient in keeping all His statutes; otherwise, they would open the door to Satan’s destruction and the consequences that would come. The curse of not keeping the Law of God allowed sickness, poverty and all evil to enter in, and the protection of God was lifted.
Deuteronomy 28:15 says,
But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.
God was faithful to keep His man immune from the enemy’s attacks and the sickness and disease that would come to challenge His people, as long as they would fully trust His goodness and walk in obedience to His words. In Exodus 23:25, Moses delivered God’s message to the people. He said, So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I WILL TAKE SICKNESS AWAY FROM THE MIDST OF YOU.
Likewise, God is faithful to keep His covenant of divine health with His children who are in Christ. However, there are prerequisites we must meet to be on the receiving end of God’s covenant! We must show forth our faith and obedience to God’s Word, walk in love, use godly wisdom and follow the directives of the Holy Spirit. We must believe His healing Word and take hold of His mercy and grace, and then we can walk free from sickness, disease and all the attacks of the enemy that would keep us from walking in God’s best plan for our lives.
Redeemed from the Curse of the Law: Restored to the God-kind of Life
Galatians 3:13 says,
Christ has redeemed [to buy up, i.e. ransomed] us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.’)
Due to man’s disobedience of sin in the garden of Eden, he forfeited the life of God and separated himself from his daily fellowship with the Lord. Adam and Eve sold out to the serpent’s lies, and therefore, they opened the door for all mankind to experience (1) spiritual death, (2) sickness and disease and (3) poverty and lack.
As Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:57, But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We were redeemed,
which means to buy up, i.e. ransom; figuratively, to rescue from loss (improve opportunity).
We have received a three-fold redemption through Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice. As Christian believers, we are forgiven, healed and made whole, as well as prospered financially and delivered from every area of Satan’s bondage (Luke 4:18; John 14:12-14).
In His earthly ministry of teaching, preaching and healing, Jesus served as our example. He ministered to the sick, lame, oppressed and possessed, and He imparted the anointing—the delivering power of God. Then, Jesus paid the price for sin, sickness and poverty through His shed blood and bruised body on the cross. Therefore, God restored His divine life and delegated authority to all His children who would believe and speak in Jesus’ name!
Through Christ’s sacrificial atonement—His death, burial and resurrection—all mankind was reconciled back to God with the price of Christ’s blood. We were redeemed or saved from the consequences of our sin; we were delivered from the effects of the curse of the Law and all the destruction that the enemy brought in this life on earth. However, we must believe in and confess Jesus as Lord and further use our faith in order to partake of this redemptive life and experience our all-inclusive salvation in Christ.
If we look back at the Old Testament types and shadows, Isaiah the prophet foretold about this redemption process that would take place. This prophecy was a foreshadowing of what Christ would accomplish on the cross at Calvary for all mankind who would believe. Those who would believe on Christ and His redemptive power would experience the arm of the Lord,
which signifies the healing and miraculous power of God.
Isaiah 53:1, 4-5 says,
Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord [power of God] been revealed… 4 Surely, He has borne our griefs [sicknesses] and carried our sorrows [pains]; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED.
The thread of healing redemption, which Isaiah prophesied, continues to be proven throughout the Bible; in particular, in Matthew 8:17 and 1 Peter 2:24. Those who believe in Christ’s resurrection and confess Jesus as Lord are saved and open themselves up for all the benefits of redemption—a salvation that includes healing and health for the physical body as believers confess Jesus as their Healer (Gen. 20:17, Jehovah Rapha-The Lord our Physician; see chapter 2, Redeemed: Our All-Inclusive Salvation Package
).
Drawing from the Divine Life of God Within
Salvation includes more than just receiving a home in heaven when we die physically. Being raised up by the power of God and spending an eternity with the Lord in heaven will be glorious, but Jesus paid the price for the divine life of God to benefit Christians in this earthly or natural life as well.
The believer must learn to attend to the knowledge of God’s Word and apply faith to the mix; they must believe the Scriptures which promise their specific needs and draw from the inward life or grace in the heart by using their authority in Jesus’ name. (Heb. 4:2b, But the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
)
As Christians, we use our authority in faith, here on this earth, in order to believe and confess our salvation in Christ. (Psalms 107:2, Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
) We are forgiven, healed and prospered—redeemed from the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13)!
Jesus taught the disciples about this redemptive-salvation process and how they could experience the eternal (without end, never ceasing, perpetual) life of God, if they would only believe.
John 3:14-17 says,
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal [never ceasing, perpetual] life [God-kind of life]. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved [to deliver, heal, make whole, rescue].
The Greek word for life
is zoe, which means the God-kind of life; of the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God; raw life, or quickening power.
At the new birth, this divine life is imparted into the believer from the very fullness and nature of God. It consists of the power of God that is ever-living and working on the behalf of Christians who actively receive the benefits of their salvation. But, in receiving in any particular area of need, they must believe with the heart and confess with the mouth that Jesus is Lord, Redeemer, Provider or Healer!
When the Christian walks daily in faith, this divine life works from within the heart or human spirit and flows outward, providing for their every need and developing areas of their spirit, soul and body. Therefore, this life flows at an ever-increasing or more abundant amount as the believer uses and grows in their measure of faith. (John 10:10b, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
; John 15:1-8, producing fruit, more fruit, and much fruit.)
First, we see that the believer’s ability to receive by faith and grow up spiritually is increased by developing the fruit of the Spirit
in the heart.
Galatians 5:22-23 says,
But the fruit of the Spirit [in the human spirit] is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness [KJV-faith], 23 gentleness, self-control.
Really, it is only by developing the fruit of our faith and love—along with all these fruits of character—that this inward life can effectually produce (e.g. Gal.5:6, KJV, "Faith which worketh [effectually works, puts forth power] by love").
Directly affected by our love walk, our faith puts forth power or propels the life of God to move on our behalf. When the believer has faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and speaks God’s Word by their authority in His name, then their faith propels all the life-giving benefits that God’s grace in salvation provides (John 14:12-14; Rom. 10:9-13).
Ephesians 2:8 says, For by grace you have been saved through faith.
Through attending to God’s Word and trusting Him in faith, we may daily partake of the promises of His saving grace, redemptive power, holy presence, divine life and healing anointing. Grace, power, life, presence and anointing are all synonymous terms for the power of the Holy Spirit within the heart or human spirit of the born-again believer.
Paul said in Romans 5:17:
For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life [God-kind of life] through the One, Jesus Christ.
At salvation, every Christian receives the grace of God, which is the zoe life
of God. Again, this divine life
in the Greek means God-kind of life, fullness of life, raw life, quickening power
within their hearts.
Furthermore, God’s grace
means His unmerited favor and benefit
as well as His graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual); especially the DIVINE INFLUENCE UPON THE HEART, and its REFLECTION IN THE LIFE.
By believing in the heart and speaking with the mouth, we activate the benefits of this inward grace of life; with our faith, this divine life is pushed forth to supply any area of need.
John 1:1-5 says,
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life [God-kind of life, quickening power], and the life was the light [Dr. Hagin-development] of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
This God-kind of life shines in the midst of the darkness, driving out sickness and disease and curing the body because of the very nature of God within. We have the nature of God’s grace, goodness and power within our hearts that develops us and makes our bodies whole. Dr. Kenneth Hagin said, "Light stands for development. In other words, ‘In Him was life; and the life was the development of men.’ " (Zoe: The God Kind of Life 5).
This divine life affects every area of our spiritual and natural lives and provides healing medicine and wholeness for our physical bodies. However, we must draw out this inward grace through speaking and acting on our faith in God’s Word.
We also read in Romans 8:2, For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus HAS MADE ME FREE from the law of sin and death.
This divine life provides all the believer needs to be free from the effects of the Old Testament curse of the Law that came as a result of man’s sin. The believer no longer needs to stay in the jail cell of sin, sickness or oppression because they are no longer under a curse; they have been gloriously redeemed from all destruction!
We have God’s amazing, eternal, life-giving power within our hearts! This inward grace of life will take us to an eternity in heaven when we die physically; but, this power also provides the Christian with healing, wholeness, strength and all the provision needed to empower us to prosper and move forward in God’s plan here on this earth.
However, in order to lead healthy lives, believers must first attentively meditate on Scriptures that will build their faith for physical healing and wholeness. They must obtain the knowledge of God’s Word and gain a clear revelation or understanding (faith’s understanding) on how to apply the principles by faith. When faith rises, they simply ask for their needs, or they boldly draw on the divine life of God within the heart by faith words and faith actions.
Moving forward, they endure in faith with a confident expectation that healing and wholeness is working or being generated by the divine life of God—even though the answer may not be immediately seen or felt in this natural realm. (2 Cor. 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight [external appearance].") A responsive faith that believes, speaks, gives thanks unto God and does what the Spirit says is what activates and moves God’s saving power to the areas of need; the answer is brought forth to manifestation by God’s healing power.
Using Our Faith: Hearing and Doing
Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith [assurance, belief] is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is a belief system that is assured or confident—based on the substance or foundation of God’s Word. You could say that faith is a belief system that we boldly act on because we have a godly hope
which means a confident expectation
that what we believed we received from the grace of God—based on the knowledge of God’s Word—will come to pass.
If we trust God, then we will trust His Word and use this heart faith to follow the direction God gives in His Manual of Truth (Bible). For instance, if we believe that Isaiah 53:5 is true, then we will accept the fact that Jesus took our sicknesses and bore our pains, and we will confidently say, By Jesus’ stripes, I am healed and whole—the price for my sickness has been paid in full!
Really, our quick response to accept the truth of healing and act on the Word heard will determine whether or not we will quickly see the changes in our bodies. You could say that promptly responding and enduring in the truth of God’s Word is a byproduct that comes from a lifestyle of using active faith and walking in godly wisdom. In contrast, being mental and indecisive only inhibits the free flow of God’s grace in our lives—it affects our growth in becoming spiritually wise and fully supplied.
Jesus taught the disciples to walk in godly wisdom by hearing and doing His Words. Likewise, we can grow wise by responding or by using our faith and building our spiritual house on the rock of hearing and doing. Matthew 7:24 says, Therefore whoever HEARS these sayings of Mine, and DOES them, I will liken him to a WISE man who built his house on the rock.
Joshua 1:8 says,
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall MEDITATE [speak, imagine, study] in it day and night, that you may OBSERVE TO DO according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous [push out, break forth], and then you will have good success.
We meditate
or speak, imagine, study, mutter, muse
over the Scriptures that promise us what we desire of the Lord. This is a confession of meditation that precedes our confession of faith. Only when we attend to, study and speak out God’s Word will the revelation or understanding come. Or, we could say that faith’s understanding rises in the heart when we feed on, mutter and look at God’s Word from every angle.
A Point of Contact:
Praying For or Calling Forth the Blessings of God
We must go a step further than just hearing and meditating on the knowledge of God’s Word—we must apply the understanding gained and use our faith. In order to grow spiritually and become prosperous (push out, break forth, advance, profit), we must use the understanding-revelation we have received to act on our faith.
There are different ways to receive the blessings of God or to make an initial point of contact with our faith (John 14:13,14; John 16:23-24: Ask
means to ask, call for, or require
). Notice, we must discern by the context of John 14 or John 16 whether or not we are to pray for or call for (claim, require) our healing.
One of the primary ways we scripturally receive our healing is to ask or pray to the Father in Jesus’ name because we don’t demand or require of the Father, do we? No, we simply ask the Father for our needs in the name of Jesus, and then we take hold of the answer with our faith by believing that we receive according to what His Word says. (John 16:23, And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.
)
We read in 1 John 5:14-15:
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
If we know His Word promises what we are asking, then we should unashamedly believe that God hears and answers our prayers. So, we ask the Father in prayer, we believe that He hears us, and then we confidently take hold of the answer by our faith. We believe we receive from the Father and go our way praising God that we are healed!
On the other hand, we really don’t have to ask or pray for what God has already given us through Christ’s redemption on the cross. Concerning the redemptive promises, we can skip the prayer part altogether and just claim or call forth our needs. However, this does not mean Christians shouldn’t go to God in the prayer of fellowship or asking for specific direction from the Lord. Of course, that type of prayer is still needed!
Clearly, it is never wrong to go to the Lord in prayer and ask anything of the Father because the Word says to Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you
(Matt. 7:7). However, we need to grow in more revelation of the Word and come to a realization in faith that we can boldly claim what is rightfully ours in Christ by simply saying, calling for or requiring!
For example, what would you do if you received a letter in the mail from a lawyer that said you had been deeded a home in your late relative’s will? You were directed in the letter to go sign the paperwork, claim the key and then go enjoy your new home. Would you go ask or even beg that lawyer for the house, saying Oh please, please can I have the house?
No, you would no doubt go as soon as possible and sign the paper work, claim the key and take hold of what is already yours. Right?
Therefore, another primary way to receive the promises of God is to simply call for (claim, require) what is already ours in Christ by faith in Jesus’ name. Really, this is the type of receiving we emphasize over and over again in this book because Jesus called this type of speaking great faith (Matt. 8:5-10, the Centurion’s servant healed by Jesus’ Word). In this type of believing, we just draw on the life of God within and simply speak healing over the affected area; furthermore, we demand sickness to go and the body to change in Jesus’ name!
Jesus said in Mark 11:22-23:
So, Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith [God-kind of faith] in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says."
In Mark 11:22-24 Jesus taught the disciples they could speak to the mountain of symptoms (i.e. fig tree, sickness, fever), or they could ask the Father in prayer for their needs. However, in both instances He taught them to receive with their faith.
Mark 11:24 says,
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, BELIEVE THAT YOU RECEIVE THEM, and you will have them [will come to pass, be generated].
Consequently, whether or not we INITIALLY—as a point of contact—ask the Father in prayer or claim (call for, require) our healing, we always believe that we receive our healing and thank God that power is working in our bodies. We actively receive by faith with the heart, thank God for the answer and continually endure by confessing what we believe in the Scriptures until we see the change in this natural or physical realm. Our faith will draw on God’s power in the heart to push into production or manifest the healing in our bodies (see chapter 5, Understanding the Faith Process
).

According to the apostle Paul in Romans 10:8-10, when we act on our faith in Christ or believe in the heart and confess with the mouth, then we are gloriously saved,
which means to save, deliver, make whole, heal, be whole, keep safe and sound, restore to health, and rescue from danger or destruction [to redeem].
Therefore, it is essential to understand that speaking faith from the heart should be the example and mentality for us to follow in receiving our healing, health and all the blessings of our salvation.
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith, not by sight [external or outward appearance]." We also read in 2 Corinthians 4:13, And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I BELIEVED AND THEREFORE I SPOKE,’ we also believe and therefore speak.
Paul taught the believers at Corinth not to be moved by the circumstances of what they would feel and see in this natural realm; rather, they were to become skilled in looking to and speaking out of a heart of confidence that was based on the foundation of God’s Word.
Romans 10:8-10 says,
But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved [to deliver, heal, make whole, rescue]. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
At salvation, we received a new recreated heart that was infused with the divine life of God—we became new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). When we received Christ as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit of God came to reside in our hearts and changed out our old sin nature by His power. This power comes from the grace or divine life of God within which provides healing and wholeness as well as all the promises of God, when we receive and speak God’s Word out of a confident heart of trust (faith, assurance, belief).
Although the believer’s heart becomes new in Christ, the mind still needs to be renewed
which, in the Greek rendering, means to be renovated, changed
by the knowledge of God’s Word (Rom. 12:2). Our mindsets are to be changed out and become God’s mindsets. (Col. 3:2, "Set your mind [have a mindset] on things above, not on things on the earth.") In other words, our mindsets must come into agreement with the understanding
