The secrets to joy, aren’t secrets at all. They aren’t being whispered. You are just not listening loudly enough to the wisdom of your inner voice.
This book is a reminder to listen.
It is a detailed exploration of elements such as personal qualities, interpersonal skills and healthy habits that make up the path to intuitive happiness and productivity.
Early-Reader Reviews:
What your soul already knows is a extraordinarily well-written book. It's a call to to pay attention to the intuitive wisdom that lies within us. A refreshing read, it had me nodding in complete agreement so often. Salma has boldly taken topics that may seem ordinary and familiar and worked to present it in a whole new light. It's not everyday you come across an author who can write in a way that directly speaks to you like an old friend. We don't need new information, new techniques to understand the wisdom around around you. Like the book title implies, your soul already knows this stuff. You just need a simple, beautifully written reminder like WYSAK every now and then. Thank you for writing this!

What Your Soul Already Knows - Salma Farook
ATTITUDE
A child’s attitude toward everything is an artist’s attitude.
- Willa Cather
The worst thing we can do is lose our inner child.
In his heart-breaking book, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, John Boyne tells the story of a nine-year-old Bruno, growing up in Berlin during the second world war, next to a Nazi camp that his father is commandant of. Through the spaces in a fence erected by a cruel world, a sweet friendship develops between Bruno and Shmuel, a Jewish boy. Naively unaware of the brutal facts of his world, Bruno sneaks his friend food and tries to cheer him up. One day, he changes into camp uniform and sneaks into the camp to help Shmuel find his ‘missing’ father. They are marched into a windowless room. Bruno apologises to Shmuel for not being able to find his father and tells him that he is his best friend for life, as the gas chamber is closed, and darkness falls…
This is a soul-stirringly poignant example of how far we can fall when we lose the innocent spirit of childhood.
Whenever I observe children play, I am blessed with a sense of tranquillity. In them, I see solutions for most of what is wrong with today’s world. Children of every race laugh and cry together, without the colour of their skin ever being a hindrance. They show sympathy for scrapes and bruises, not caring whether the blood spilt is Hindu or Muslim or Christian. They say what they mean and stand by it. World peace would be more than just a possibility if we were all to suddenly become children again; it would be the most likely probability.
Perhaps it is time to turn the classrooms around so we may learn from them. Maybe when we are learned enough in the illiteracy of childhood, we can finally pacify the world.
The next time you are about to be judgemental, remember that you too were once a child in a playground, where prejudice and bias had no place. Remember, that it was magnificent...
Wisdom is a trait that can easily be misconceived to be in the territory of the old. However, you do not have to be grey-haired to be wise. We are endowed with it way before that, along with the purity of childhood. Somewhere along the way, we lose it, only to make a harried search for it later!
How many times have you seen a child jump with elation at the sight of an aeroplane? In contrast, we have stopped taking joy in the small things.
Finding happiness in the everyday matters is one of the most blissful and comprehensive ways of living. More often than not, we are so focused on everything that is wrong or unsatisfactory that we forget to list all the tiny things that are perfect. It is good to concentrate on the bigger picture, but it is better, to do so while taking joy in the pixels that make it up.
It is truly ironic that a four-hundred tonne aluminium monster floats so effortlessly through the sky, and only the five-year-old thinks to say, Wow!
I am on an expedition, to rediscover my inner child, and I hope you join me too. May we too, like them, have the courage to run as fast as we can, even when balance seems precarious, even when the likelihood that we fall is insurmountable.
When we do fall, may we get up, wobble a bit, maybe, and run again.
As if we have never fallen before.
BAFFLEMENT
Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves.
- Henry David Thoreau
One of the truly hardest things in life is feeling like a ship without a compass; floating mindlessly, lost at sea. You are haunted by questions; Why am I alive? What difference am I making in this world? What do I do with my life?
If the two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why... then what do we do with the days in between?
What an intimidating question!
Maya Angelou was a poet that I admire deeply. At the tender age of eight, she was sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend. The man was imprisoned, then killed soon after, presumably by her uncles. In the aftermath of these horrifying events, the child who would one day become one of the most eloquent and inspiring poets of the world, became mute for five long years. She was lost and terrified. However, it is said that it was in this dark period that she developed her incredible insight into
