Improving Family Communication:
16 FHE Lessons on
Christlike Communication
"Each [family member] must be willing to do his part to improve, since the family unit is the basic foundation of the Church. Proper communication will always be a main ingredient for building family solidarity and permanence" (Marvin J. Ashton) [1].
Introduction
Over the last thirty years new technology has completely changed the way we communicate. These days people are usually looking down at their cell phone to text, scroll, or swipe. As a result, face-to-face communication is slowly degenerating. The need for competent communicators in our homes and communities has never been greater.
With the many challenges facing families, how can parents raise socially and emotionally intelligent children? It takes mindful modeling, self-restraint, and plenty of time. But teaching your child how to effectively communicate with others is a gift that can last a lifetime.
Communication is the principal process through which families develop and maintain relationships that bring the greatest happiness in life. The purpose of this book is to encourage families to both discuss and practice healthy communication skills in the home. Lessons in Improving Family Communication are rooted in gospel principles taught in the scriptures and by latter-day prophets.
