Chapter 1
LA Airport is its normal busy self on a late Friday afternoon in September. Tom Bracks bustles through the doors of the airport clutching a small carry bag in one hand as he bee-lines towards the check-in. His eyes dart around as he takes in his surroundings. Tom is built like a tank. He is six foot three and regularly works out in the gym. He is a good looking well-built man and the young brunette at check in notices his masculine and chiseled features as she checks his details. She flirts with Tom but he is emotionless and ignores any overtures including the wink after checking his booking. He briskly walks towards security and lines up as the long queue slowly moves closer to the screening area.
Before Tom is at the head of the queue a security guard approaches. Maintaining an icy cold disposition he looks away as the security guard approaches him and then asks, ‘Where are you travelling to Sir?’ He quickly responds, ‘Washington DC.’ ‘What is the purpose of your travel Sir,’ the security guard asks. ‘Visiting my grandmother. She is sick and I haven’t seen her in a long while.’ Tom expects that will sufficiently answer the security guards concerns, but then the guard replies. ‘Come with me ....over here please, Sir?’ Tom sighs, follows the security guard and is led to an interview area adjacent to the queue. ‘Put the bag on the table and place your arms out to your side.’ He instructs Tom.
Tom looks around and with a rush of blood, slaps the security guards arm and then pushes the man forward causing him to fly over the desk in the small interview room. He grabs his bag and runs out of the room slamming the door behind him. By now screams can be heard as passengers panic watching Tom running at full pace through the terminal, his actions alerting security and airport police who can now be heard running towards him. The screams follow him as he runs, and terrified passengers react not really knowing what is going on.
The airport has suddenly gone from its normal busy state to all out pandemonium. There is panic and fear as passengers scream and run in different directions, hiding behind whatever they can to seemingly protect themselves from the unknown. There is the deafening sound of sirens, people running with Police and security guards frantically running to head off Tom Bracks. But Tom is quickly bustling out the front door amidst yells of ‘Stop. Stop. Police!’ He almost runs one Police officer down and karate chops another running through the door. The Police shout again ‘Stop. Stop or we will shoot.’ But still Tom runs flat out as he eyes off an unmanned Taxi. He slides in the front seat after almost pulling the door off. He wastes little time starting the Yellow Cab and the sound of wheels squealing can be heard as he takes off. Several Police stand and fire shots. The rear window of the taxi
