Summary: In this book, Elmer and his friends celebrate Christmas. Elmer is in charge of all the little elephants while the bigger elephants prepared the presents that were going to go under the tree. Elmer and the little elephants went out and retrieved the tree. Then when they brought it back all of the older elephants put the presents under it. The next day, Elmer went to meet Papa Red (who was their version of Santa Claus), and all of the little elephants hid in the bushes to see Papa Red while this happened. When Papa Red got there, Elmer gave him all the toys the older elephants wrapped under the tree. After he left, the young elephants were confused why Elmer gave all the toys away. Elmer told them that Papa Red takes all of those presents and gives them to who need it the most because Christmas is the season of giving. Later that night, Elmer gave all of the little elephants one present that Papa Red left for them. Review: I thought this book was very cute and had a good moral lesson to the students about giving rather than receiving. Therefore, I think the main idea of this story was about how important it is to give during the holiday season and to not expect anything in return. It shows that the true meaning behind Christmas is helping the lesson fortunate. This was shown when Elmer told the little elephants that Papa Red gives all the presents they wrapped to the people who need them the most. Overall, I thought this book was well written and showed how the holiday season is about being with others and giving to others.

No Christmas could be complete without the adorable plaid elephant.

One of the nicest holiday books ever. Elephants, Big Red and flying moose. The presents are put under the tree to be taken away.
