INTRODUCTION
Spanish is fun and easy to learn. This book is a step-by-step method that starts from the very beginning. As with any subject, your personal results will vary according to the amount of time and effort you give towards achieving the goal of becoming fluent in this beautiful language.
Studying should be broken down into two separate parts: sentence structure and word lists. Learning sentence structure is what will enable you to carry on a conversation. Without it, you would simply know many words, but could never understand what an Hispanic speaker was saying. Each lesson contained in this book is a very important part of learning sentence structure.
Make your own word list to study. Learn the Spanish names for the things that are around you at home, school, or work. Some are in the vocabulary at the back of this book. Use a Spanish-English dictionary to find almost any word you wish to know. Try to memorize at least 20 new words per week. Begin your first list after you read lesson 1 - Pronunciation.
Always remember: practice makes perfect. Do not be afraid to use what you have learned. Try to talk with Spanish speakers as often as you can. They will be delighted to help you. Enjoy!

Lesson 1 - Pronunciation
(a) Vowels
Unlike English, letters in Spanish are pronounced the exact same way almost every time you see them. Here is how you pronounce the five vowels in Spanish:
a - like the 'a' sound in the English word watch
e - like the 'e' sound in the English word let
i - like the long 'ee' sound in the English feet
o - like the 'o' sound in the English word over
u - like the long 'oo' sound in the English word moon
(b) Consonants
Most of the Spanish consonants are pronounced the same way they are in English. Here are the ones that are different:
g - makes a normal English 'g' sound like in the word goat; but when it is followed by an 'e' or an 'i' it makes an english 'h' sound like in the word hot.
h - is silent in Spanish
j - makes an English 'h' sound like in the
